Sadly the terms of Assurant do cover them using non-OEM parts:
Repairs will be made using readily available parts, or we may provide remanufactured products. These may contain parts that are of similar or equivalent specification, and these may include unbranded parts. This policy is provided in addition to any manufacturer’s warranty that applies to your mobile phone (“applicable manufacturer’s warranty”). Nothing in this policy is intended to affect your rights under the applicable manufacturer’s warranty or your statutory rights.
Was part of why I cancelled Premium around the same time I upgraded phone and got Apple Care+
AppleCare+ all the way. Can’t beat walking into an Apple Store and having it fixed or swapped in front of you. Premium service for a phone at a premium price.
Packaged accounts have always had their caveats. Whilst some won’t kind what parts are in their phone. When it comes to Apple devices. The software experience just degrades you for it.
Never seen the point in insuring my phone, either through some packaged account or from an insurance company.
In all these years I’ve never needed to use one. I use my phone’s generally until end of life (no more software updates), once we get to that stage, it’s new phone time.
Never damaged a phone or lost one either , when my Pixel 6 Pro needs a new battery, as that’ll not last the 5 years worth of software updates. I’ll just buy the Google repair kit for it and replace the battery myself.
Some will actually let you, and encourage you, to take your Apple products to Apple for repair and servicing, and they’ll reimburse the invoice minus the excess.
This was the way of Monzo’s former insurance partner with a previous version of Plus.
