Monzo Plus - here's what's coming next!

Just had an email come through - a survey asking about account interest.

:tada:

I voted for 2.5% up to £1,000 - that seems like a no brainer to me, if I have more in my current account then I’ll just move it to a savings pot.

I hope they change their view on pots if/when it comes to this.

Include the amount you have in pots towards the calculation for interest gained like how Starling does.

That’s practically what I answered as well. If I’ve got more than 1k in the account for a couple of days (i.e. it isn’t between “pay day” and “mortgage payment day”), then it’s syphoned off to a savings account.

Exactly the same reply here pretty much!

I got this too!

It also mentioned the waitlist for Plus and how they’re working on inviting more users soon. :soon:

I think 2.5 up to £1000 would be best if it doesn’t include the normal non-interest bearing pots. But if it includes those pots (which I think it should) then 1.5 up to 4000 may be better.

I didn’t get the email, despite having Monzo Plus, but 2.5% up to £1000 is an absolute lock there IMO

If I’d had the email I’d have chosen either 2.5% on £1000 or 1.5% on £4000.

As others have said I believe most people would move anything more than that into a savings pot where they can already get 1.5% anyway.
From my knowledge people only tend to keep what they need for that month or so within their current account.

1% up to £10,000 just encourages people not to use pots.

I’m guessing pots are not going to be included in this calculation. Only because it will add to the confusion of people remembering which pot is a monzo pot and which is with another provider.

Same reply from me!

2.5% up to £1000 as I rarely have more than this in my main account as the rest is on committed spends or siphoned off into pots.

I’d seriously consider Monzo Plus if this were implemented. I’ve been watching with interest, but didn’t think the current offering was worth it.

I don’t have Monzo Plus- yet but am now looking at the possibility more as the advancements take shape.

2.5% on up to £1,000 makes the most sense to me - reward those that are holding money in their current accounts the most, when they hit that cap they now have various vehicles for saving more than £1,000 (ISAs, instant access) whilst the interest rate is lower than the current account, you can put more in and so can get to the same level of interest being paid.

Seems like a no brainer for me to go for 2.5% at £1,000

Did you intercept my response to the questionnaire

I was waiting for the likes of this, and other “base” features to come on board as well.

I’m not sure the £25 per year (of a £72 annual fee) would entice me - There would have to be much more in the core offering to justify the extra £50 (for me anyway).

Pretty much echoing what others have said. I opted for the 2.5% for up to £1,000. A high balance is unlikely for me as I move everything to savings where I already get ~1.5% or better. The remaining money is for bills which is transient and a small amount <£1000 I give myself each month to spend on things.

From a monthly Monzo Plus fee perspective, it would certainly help cover some of the cost. However, with the Monzo Plus current offerings, I would still feel I was at a loss. When some of the proposed benefits come into play then this would certainly help feel like you’re getting your moneys worth out of it and more.

p.s. at being a “Plustomer”

2.5% response from me as well

I too got the email and went for 1.5% up to 4,000 but I think Monzo could’ve done a little better on explaining it.

Like others said, does it include non-interest pots? Is the interest paid monthly? Does it count committed spend until it’s actually left your account?

Maybe knowing the above questions I might’ve gone 2.5%

Look like the answers aren’t all in the same order to try to counter response order effects which is good.

Personally I went for the 1.5%. I would want the interest to pay off as much of the Plus fee as possible on a reasonable-ish balance and to be equivalent to the top end instant savers in order stop me shifting the balance into a savings account.

Balance Payable Interest Rate Annual Interest Monthly Interest
£1,000.00 2.5% £25.00 £2.08
£4,000.00 1.5% £60.00 £5.00
£10,000.00 1.0% £100.00 £8.33

This will be the winner for people who don’t want different accounts, and have multiple thousands to save.

Personally, at 1.5% I can put my money in a number of other accounts to get the interest.

Not to mention the average amount of savings for people are incredibly low, so they probably wouldn’t take advantage of the extra 3 grand (but I get what you are saying).

It would be interesting to know what the average amount held in a Monzo current account is - for me personally I wouldn’t be able to get £4,000 in a current account and let it lie there, whereas £1,000 seems more manageable. £10,000 a far cry from possibility for me

I went with 1.5% for the same reasons above.
