Monzo Plus and Premium update 2023-24

Just woken up to this (I’m in LA) and have no words.

The gift of the rushed 2018 JA implementation just keeps on giving.

Disappointed once again.

(Appreciate the update though. Bad news is better than no news)

Very sad news to hear.

Ok, that’s not great. How about just custom categories? Just that one feature. Please.

Or the export?

Duncan and I will accept that one of us is causing bugs and retire from the battle gracefully.

@rossmonzo I honestly think it’s not worth continuing to update this thread since it’s clear Monzo just don’t value the JA and associated customers. It’s quite astonishing for the official line (I’m sure some will disagree with this take but since you’re representing Monzo and this work stream) to be ‘too hard, CBA’ and really puts me off Monzo altogether.

It’s worth pointing out I think (as I think people have forgotten)… this is not a thread about Joint Accounts. It’s a thread about Plus & Premium

The below is the thread about joint accounts. Maybe @rossmonzo you could pop a message in that thread and the JA conversation can continue over there?

Fair shout on continuing point but stand by the essence of the comment.

Plus and Premium for joint accounts

Personally, I don’t think Ross’s sentiment was CBA, but that there are other more pressing priorities. But while I feel the pain about the JA situation, my personal wants are better plus/premium over improvements to the JA experience. Purely on the basis that it’s a paid for product. I would however love to have the same experience on my JA too of course.

Yes, I know that, but I was responding to the comment that it was no longer worth continuing updating this thread… context is everything

Potato, potahto.

Why can’t an improvement to Plus/Premium also benefit JA users? It doesn’t have to be binary does it. Not to mention many of those paying for Plus/Premium are JA users.

When you’ve only got so many people to do the work, sometimes doing everything in one go isn’t possible… Especially when you hit a bump in the road which will take a lot more time to fix than envisaged.

And I disagree that it’s a Potato, potahto situation. CBA means we don’t want to do it. That’s absolutely the opposite of what has been said.

I would prefer JA to benefit, just for the record. But if I were in charge I’d probably make the same priority call.

Anyways that’s my 2p worth :joy:

I’d imagine the reason we have joint accounts at all was because they were implemented as a minimum viable product. I seem to remember that being mentioned on here before.

The consequences of that choice is making changes and addressing some of the missing feature parity will be much harder.

I’m glad we got them when we did. I’d love for there to be plus / premium, custom categories etc. but I totally understand that the effort to implement joint accounts right doesn’t make sense for Monzo when set against other things. At least it was investigated and we got an honest update about that investigation. I’m grateful for that.

Let’s face it, JAs are dead with respect to these features. If it’s not getting done now, it never is.

:wastebasket:

Coming in to just reiterate once again my request to please give us a way to opt out of insurance if it ends up being included in all packages!!

I really use the current Plus features a lot, they’re vital to how I manage my finances, but I have insurance of my own which I don’t want to invalidate, and I must be far from the only one with that issue.

Why would it invalidate your insurance?

You can have as many insurance policies as you like. You can only claim once however.

As above, provided you only claim from one insurer, you’re fine.

If you have double cover, one insurer could ask the other to make a contribution to your payout.

This could significantly delay your claim, and you could also be left paying two excess charges.

Making two claims, rather than just one, could also mean a rise in your insurance premiums in the future.

Step back a moment. Is anyone suggesting the insurance deals will come to Plus?

I’m surprised that isn’t an option to be honest, I would have assumed it was.

Do other banks let you opt out?
