Introducing the new Monzo Plus

We were inches away from bringing you a new Monzo Plus just a few months ago. With everyone focusing on more important issues, like our health and the health of our friends and family, it wasn’t the right time. We’d built these accounts around things we know you love doing like travelling and visiting great restaurants, but we’re living in a different world now.

We went back to the drawing board to build a product that would still be really useful even if we can’t travel as much right now. We’re thrilled with what we’ve built, and we’re excited to announce the new Monzo Plus.

The new Monzo Plus

Monzo Plus is the account that puts money in your hands. You’ll earn interest on your balance, access tools that help you get a grip on your finances, then stretch your pennies into pounds. All with an exclusive holographic card.

Here’s what’s inside:

  • 1.00% AER/Gross (variable) interest on up to £2,000
  • View your other bank accounts in Monzo
  • Virtual cards
  • Your credit score in Monzo
  • An exclusive holographic card
  • Offers
  • Custom categories
  • Transaction splitting
  • Advanced roundups
  • 1 free cash deposit a month
  • £400 fee-free ATM withdrawals overseas

:atm: £400 fee-free ATM withdrawals overseas every 30 days

Extra cash when you need it. For every 30 days that you’re away, as soon as you can travel the world again.

A thank you from us

We’re offering the first 2 months of the new Monzo Plus for free to anyone who bought the old one! If you sign up we’ll put £10 credit in your account, and you’ll pay £5 a month for a minimum of 3 months.

If you still have the old Monzo Plus, signing up does mean you’ll lose your existing benefits (find these in the app by going to Home and tapping ‘Plus’), including insurance policies if you have them.

This offer ends on 16 September and I have to remind you that Monzo Plus Ts and Cs apply . If we suspect any fraud or misuse we may withdraw the promotion early.

Tell us what you think

We’re excited to build from here, and as always, we’d love your help in knowing where to go next. You can read our blog post if you’d like to see more detail on the account here.

Nothing for joint account users.

I gave up on Monzo being exciting about a year ago as I’m a soul joint account user. I just use it now with the same enthusiasm I had for my old NatWest account

Someone asked about Amex in the other thread.

As the Open Banking team said in the Easy Bank Transfers thread, Amex don’t use standard Open Banking APIs, so as Peter guessed a few days ago, it will take a while longer before Amex is supported

At launch we support adding payment accounts and credit cards from Lloyds, Barclays, Barclaycard, HSBC, NatWest, Santander, Halifax, Nationwide, RBS, Bank of Scotland, First Direct, Capital One, MBNA. We estimate this covers over 85% of Monzo customer’s other accounts.

Not all providers share all kinds of savings accounts with us; for example, ISAs are not usually included.

Congrats on the launch.

Few questions:

  • Does the connected bank accounts only show current accounts & credit cards?
  • Can you choose a pot for the Virtual Cards?
  • Any pics of the Holographic Card in physical form?

Congratulations. I’m having a good read up before signing up but looks great on first impressions.

As I said in the other thread: I really want joint account support myself! But we’re keen to make sure we get this right for personal accounts first

There are some awesome features here, so well done to the team for implementing them.

Sadly a non-starter for me as joint accounts are (surprise surprise) completely ignored. :disappointed:

Also… no Amex support just now, but at least that’s something I imagine will actually improve.

Not yet, but we’ve thought about and experimented with this internally… :bulb:

I love it so far. One question though - I’ve tried to add my help to buy ISA from Natwest but it won’t work. It says I don’t have any valid accounts. Is this because I don’t also have a current account with Natwest and if so, will I ever be able to add this?

If you need a beta tester…

ISAs aren’t supported.

Nothing on there I see is very interesting - Paying for credit score info you can get for free?

This looks another flop in the making.

While I don’t know if the whole thing is for me, I’m at least impressed at the price point and minimum term combo - makes it worth’s. Little trial.

Kudos.

I was hoping that there would be more to budgeting than just categories and transaction splitting though. Maybe even a more pots / no pot limit.

And I was / am hoping whatever happens with Open Banking allows for pot movements based on other card activity. I.e - balance go up, I can add money to a pot. Or if that became more iFTTT-able that would be great. But early days there.

Can’t wait to play with virtual cards, and hopefully I’m assuming a 2nd rumoured travel based version might come soon.

Looks great and will join once available for joint accounts. Any timeline on this?

It’s definitely not going to be worth it for a lot of people. And that’s ok.

It doesn’t seem like I can pay my Plus subscription from my bills pot which is very annoying

Ahh that’s a shame! It would be great to have that paired to a pot. Maybe in the future?!?

Also on Offers - never been super keen on premium offers, but I was about to make an order at Patch so that’s something!

Sorry, I should have actually read that! A shame as the only account I have with another bank is that isa

I think flop in the making isn’t quite accurate. It’s being sold as a “SaaS addition” - ie a software upgrade to your account.

The Credit Score thing is a limitation of the provider to only provide it every 30 days I think, to try to keep people going back to their site instead probably :man_shrugging:
