Monzo Labs: Share Card Replacements 💳

We already update the card in your Apple Pay or Google Pay wallet as soon as you activate your replacement card, and have done so since launch as far as I know. :+1:

It’s never worked for me :-1:, always had to remove my old card and add my new one.

I also had to do this just last week when having the replacement investor card

Didn’t work for me either. I couldn’t remove the old card and I couldn’t add the new card either.

Is the feature ‘Opt In’? I ask, because I do not want this. From my perspective - accepting that there is a convenience element here for other users - this is not something that I want to happen.

I have a lot of subscription payments on my card, and what this functionality is doing here is actually moving the onus on the customer to manually cancel their payment with all the individual services. However, not all vendors provide a safe and easy way to do this with any confidence, meaning endless hours sitting on the phone waiting to get through to someone who will go through the motions and tell you that the payment is cancelled, only to find 3 days later that the payment is taken anyway. Complain and you get the “Sorry but you missed the cut-off date”. I would much rather know that when I cancel my card and have a new one reissued that payment agreements need to be setup again. It forces me to re-evaluate which services I actually need - and let’s face it, sign up for these services is always easier than cancellation!

So while I appreciate this is a handy feature for some, I don’t want it. Sadly, if this becomes an always on and automatic feature, it would be the deciding factor as to whether or not I remain with Monzo.

This is the sort of issue that everyone has always had but never realised they needed a solution for. Fantastic idea, very much looking forward to that.

Agreed, when I used CASS to switch from Coop Bank I didn’t even consider that this was a service that was possible! I missed a couple of payments for things like Now TV as they’re recurring card payments rather than DD.

I’m wondering if there’s any way of removing the signature strip. It’s probably the ugliest part and honestly, who signs a card nowadays? It always rubs off, anyway! Besides, with the invention of Chip and Pin, it became redundant.

Annoying got a new card last week as my other stopped working so can’t test this feature till 2021 now haha

Probably not as you’ll need to sign for payments on the rare occasion card machines are on the blink!

Would it be possible to get a list of companies that this currently works on?

Then you know which you might need to do yourself.

I’d say it’s with double checking everything, anyway.

I agree but it would be nice to have a list of venders that this works with in most cases

And if yours isnt on there then you know to double check that company/update manually

There is no list, Monzo want to know who it works with too!

(There’s a Wiki set up yesterday for those who try it to start to populate with results.)

I mean I guess the best way to do this would be to have a check box in the card replacement flow for opt-in/opt-out.

Even better, when Monzo has a better understanding of who supports it, they could potentially identify which subscriptions on your account will be replaced and let you know?

It would be nice if there was a way for confirmation from merchants to be fed back to MasterCard then Monzo.

Do you think there are many people that would want to opt out?

I woulld unless I could be pro-actively selective about who got the new details.
