My theory… because they are having to restrict/throttle joint account applications, for whatever reason, they don’t want to go “LOOK! We’ve added Plus to Joint Accounts” and then have more and more people try and get them, can’t find the button, can’t apply “bUt mY CReDiT Sc0Re!!!111” etc etc
The same doesn’t apply to The US of A, so they can do whatever.
So once they clear whatever the hurdle is, we’ll get JA Plus over here, but not before.
I’d also love to know. Do we have any hints historically on the forums from staff?
With regards custom categories, perhaps some senior product manger is squatting on the feature in the UK for some potential future joint Plusium product .
Fwiw I joined Monzo yesterday only needing a JA. Went through the motions of setting up seperate accounts for me and my wife first (slightly rolling my eyes to myself that this was necessary) then created the JA. So thats already some wasted time and two debit cards wastefully created and mailed.
No Plus on the JA was then the final straw, so I’ll be cancelling my plans to transfer my banking to Monzo.
Came here to leave feedback so it could be noted. The existence of this thread and the length of time this has been acknowledged as an issue that should be fixed, frankly just confirms my decision is right.
Hope this does get resolved, and maybe I’ll be back when it does.
Just saying, as per original post on this thread, we’re JA users, have been for many years, and we rarely use our PAs. The only reason I don’t go plus is because I can’t use it on JA where we do our banking.
I’ve been looking at moving away from my joint account with First Direct (due to their app being terrible).
Since i started using the Instant Access Savings Pot (amazing btw), I’ve switched to using my Monzo account for everything. I also struggled with roundups with other accounts with a variety of other banks, so having savings and current account with one bank is great.
The only reason I cant and won’t move my joint account to Monzo at this point in time, the rewards perks with my existing joint FD and same as my joint Halifax account before it.
Halifax paid £20 per month for travel insurance for me and my partner, phone cover for both of our phones and emergency home cover.
First direct paid £15 per month for the same thing.
I don’t have premium on any of my personal current accounts as sharing the cost and getting more with my partner is a much better value for money and allows both of us to get perks of a “premium” style account.
I’d love to move our JA to monzo and fingers crossed the premium perks can be added to a JA not needing to be on an individual single current account
Why not separate the idea of perks from the idea of your bank account? I think it’s a really terrible legacy of the old banks that people have been trained to think that they need to be getting this or that perk, and that’s the main thing to focus on. Instead, why not focus on the fact that Monzo’s banking product iteself is superior? A bank should be… a bank, no? And do, like, banking stuff?
It seems obvious to me that they’ve screwed up and are too embarrassed to say any more.
I’m resuming my vow of silence about this because I only have critical things to say about both the situation they find themselves in and how it’s been handled.
Sounds like US joint accounts were developed from scratch then, rather than sharing whatever the UK ones run on. Would love a rough ETA on those… we had assurances more than a year ago that stuff was being worked on in that space, and still not a whiff.
