Is Monzo down again this morning? Card declines everywhere
Status page is showing no problems and I used mine an hour ago

Edit: forgot that Twitter links have the wrong time on them. It’s only half an hour so not as bad as it first looked
Looks like a MasterCard Debit issue as Santander are also reporting issues with some transactions this morning.
Mine got declined when I tried to pay for shopping.
Luckily I had one item so used cash.
Still nothing showing on monzo.statuspage.io but Mastercard down? Current problems and outages | Downdetector does show a hefty spike in problems.
Today I learnt! Are they generally wrong or just off by X minutes?

As the tweet @Peter_G has posted confirms, we were aware of an issue with cards being unexpectedly declined but this should be under control now (apologies for any inconvenience ).

Starling Bank states issues too - must be universal MasterCard Debit problems.
Definitely MasterCard issues from co-op point of view here, not just Monzo.
Sorry but should this not be on the status page then? Even if it’s something fixed it should be in the previous incidents. Is that not the point of that page?

I’ll chase this up to see what’s happened
I believe this was down to how deeply the issue impacted users and down to it not being an issue specifically on Monzo’s end - more with a transaction acquirer.
I’ll keep digging and I’ve passed on feedback regarding the page being updated potentially in future
Went down for me too at a McDonalds drive through at 9:50. Waved phone at terminal, got the ‘Tick’ above the Monzo card in Google Pay, but operator informed it had been declined. Oh, got physical card out and waved it at terminal, operator informed it was declined again. Pulled out metal personal account card, said ‘this’ll sort it’, waved - declined. Panic. App looked OK, no cards frozen, but no transactions. Had to put a £14 McDonalds breakfast run on a credit card.
Thanks. Obviously appreciate it might not have been Monzo’s fault but even if this was made clear on the status page for anyone might be helpful.
Maybe send out a push notification to Monzo users to save embarrassment, not me, but would be helpful if a widespread issue is found like this @AlanDoe
Push notifications aren’t a good idea. Support will get SWAMPED by queries from people who had no intention of making any payments during the downtime but have now been worried by the fault message.
