I’d bet that both Monzo and Asda have the technology that is capable of identifying exactly what went wrong.
Imagine a bank or worldwide supermarket chain that doesn’t know every detail of what happens on their network Things don’t just disappear, happen without reason or leave zero trace
Either Monzo or Asda are withholding information, so we will probably never know
Not sure the exact reason is relevant unless we get told the real reason. An accidental block in a company that does nightly updates, means it shouldn’t take more than 24 hours to fix the issue if it was accidental.
The block was purely at ASDA forecourts not affecting ASDA stores. So it was a specific change affecting Monzo cards only. The reference to N26, if anyone follows N26 like all new card issuers, there are acceptance issues, the same as with Monzo when it was new. So absolutely nothing to suggest its related. No other bank had issues, we would have definitely heard if it affected any of the big banks.
So whatever way people want to try and sugar coat it, ASDA blocked Monzo cards at its forecourts and they even put signs out notifying customers Monzo cards would not work. No notices saying some cards don’t work, only notices saying Monzo are not accepted.
ASDA know exactly why the cards were not accepted, which means Monzo will have been told why.
And this is why people in IT have to come up with fancy technical answers that people don’t understand. You wouldn’t accept there was a bug, and blocking cards lost the least money.
County-wide issue affecting the payment infrastructure of petrol kiosks/pumps? Yes, I’m sure Dave in the bakery knows all the deets.
Because this involves a 3rd party ( ASDA ) it’s not fair of monzo to comment on the reason in full.
ASDA aren’t as transparent as monzo and thus if they are to blame then like most other companies they would say the bare minimum to get it resolved.
I’m not saying the blame is entirely ASDA but they likely don’t want to fight over who’s fault it was like children and thus keep the reasoning as to why quiet.
Forgot about that. Goes to show there’s a lot of cooks in the kitchen.
That’s a saying right?
Basically my point was it’s not always wise to point the finger publicly, especially if the other person has asked you not to. It will just make future between them interactions sour.
If I understand correctly the MasterCard rules state you must accept all mastercards of the same type.
So if you take one banks debit card you must take all mastercard debit cards. But you can refuse to accept prepaid Mastercards. If you choose to, you must decline all of them (no picking between providers).
Same goes for MasterCard credit cards.
Does revolut fall under a pre paid card?
Maybe monzo got mixed up in the confusion.
