Lounge Key sucks and needs replacing

As part of the Max benefits, we get access to Lounge Key, a premium airport lounge booking platform providing discounted rates. The main issue is - it’s never available to book.

I have a holiday coming up in September, no spaces free. Another in May 2027, no spaces free.

It seems that LK have a specific number of slots free, and once these are taken, you can no longer use it. Problem is, I believe this is also based on the number of people that have booked normally through the Lounge’s website. The more standard bookings are made, the less LK slots there are.

It’s a completely useless “benefit”, and should be replaced with something like Priority Pass - this platform actually works.

Key question - what airport are you trying to book from? As it could be very busy.

Is the LoungeKey benefit only available if prebooking? When I’ve used LoungeKey (5 free yearly entries) I just show up to the lounge on the day of travel and get it. I never prebook.

Same when using Priority Pass. Amex introduced the prebooking benefit but haven’t used it. I just show up to the lounge and go in if there’s space.

This is specifically in Manchester airport. Which yes, fine it’s a busy airport, but to not be able to book at all, any dates or times. It’s useless.

Not really an option to not book tbh. Without a pre-book you are putting availabilities in the hands of god! And that includes standard show up, rather than using PP or LK.

It’s always been a useless “perk”. The apiary in T2 is as nice, even if it isn’t a lounge.

I’ve personally never had a problem walking into a lounge and presenting my (linked-to-Loungekey) Monzo card - and most of these walk-ins have been at MAN too.

The biggest issue is the fact that many travel agents / booking services now offer Lounge access as a ‘perk’ with a family holiday booking, so Lounges get more crammed.
Ironically, it’s now easier to hit the public area Maccie D’s (other fast food/restaurant/bar offerings available) with no line :man_shrugging:
