Lost phone and worried about someone accessing my monzo app

When did that happen? :open_mouth:

Think it’s just a shortcut to open an email

Don’t get too excited

Might be a generational thing. A lot of younger people I know (younger than me, that is) only have a mobile, no landline. They can do everything on their mobile. Even the internet, if you have a contract with unlimited mobile data you can just use use your phone as a hotspot for your home internet. So no need for a contract with BT or anyone else for a landline.

Although I realise belatedly that as OP still has internet access, might not be the case for them.

Wouldn’t be able to post if the forum if that was the case here

 I managed to catch myself this time, though!

ETA: That said, you can get mobile routers where instead of plugging the router into a phone line, you plug a SIM into the router and it’s all done using mobile data but without a phone.

But we’re getting further and further into edge cases there.

OP has a lot of valuable information in here. Hopefully once they have got themselves sorted they can look at implementing it all :+1: To be so reliant on your mobile phone and not have a password on it is scary to say the least :scream:

We all live and learn though - I wonder if there is a blog post from Monzo about basic security…

Some ISPs also sell broadband as a standalone service without a landline phone package. And for some services that do require a copper pair such as ADSL or VDSL, the phone line cannot accept or initiate calls in those cases.

As someone who lives alone without a landline, and who dropped their phone in the toilet a few months ago; I can confirm you really can end up in a very difficult situation very quickly. I bought a replacement phone and when I went to collect it, had to provide photo ID. Well I didn’t have any photo ID so I wanted to sign in to my Apple ID in store to evidence the order. Oh not possible because it’s trying to complete 2 step verification and sending a text to my destroyed phone. Ok, let’s try gmail. Nope not possible; two step verification - try to order on amazon, nope. I ended up having to go to a store and buy a phone the old fashioned way. Hugely infuriating… I couldn’t even access my contacts via iCloud because I was locked out of everything…

This is the struggle I am facing just now. Can only communicate through email until I finally get my phone replaced. Tried to make a facebook account to keep in touch with friends but it just asks for me to verify the account through a SMS code. It’s really difficult to manage this stuff when you are limited.

I feel your pain, only because of my own bitter experience. I now have two phones, with duplicate contacts etc on them because I never want to have that experience again. Oh and I no longer put my phone in my back pocket

Well that’s the big question answered .
