Labs Feedback: Joint Accounts šŸ¤

Iā€™m sorry if this has been said before, but thereā€™s no way to request payment via a monzo.me link in joint accounts. Is this likely to be implemented at some point?

For new joint accounts opened from now on, you will be able to move money between your accounts, and immediately use your new PIN to make bank transfers, pay friends, and move money between your accountsā€”before you receive and activate your card.

Youā€™ll still need to receive and activate your card to use it it to make card payments, and add it to Apple/Google Pay.

Hopefully this should be a lot less confusing going forward :+1:

Noice!

Tried a CASS switch from joint FirstDirect to my joint Monzo. Switch failed.

Know CASS isnā€™t officially supported for JAs but have read others have been successful.

Has this been for switching from a single account to a JA?
Anyone had any luck switching a JA from First direct to Monzo?

Hereā€™s another mock-up at an option they are looking at for the account switcher:

Interesting. Did it say why it failed?

A CASS switch requires the last five digits of your old accountā€™s debit card.

For joint->joint switch, we need both cardā€™s details; for a sole->joint switch, we need to know who the old account belongs to, so we can pass along the right personā€™s details to your old bank.

We havenā€™t yet updated the CASS signup flow to ask for this information, which is why weā€™ve removed the option to switch to a joint account for the time being.

:information_source: While Iā€™m here: if anyoneā€™s still on a TestFlight build for joint accounts, be sure to update to the App Store version!

I donā€™t think we can do this automatically :disappointed:

Ah interesting didnā€™t know it needed both card numbers. Guess not all banks are checking these since joint to joint has worked for quite a few of us!

Feedback: I really donā€™t like when I transfer money to my joint account using ā€˜Move Moneyā€™ that it just shows the two names on the account on the Home tab. Itā€™s a bit naff. Are there any plans to improve this?

Thank you Tim. Appreciate you sharing deets

This is also bugging me as well! Fingers crossed it will be sorted once joint accounts is out of labs!

Yeah Iā€™d hope at least to see the two profile pictures!

I think just informing people with a tutorial in app that the way they switch between the two accounts is to hold down in the nav bar at the bottom of the app. Twitter works great like this.

Just having a interesting conversation about self funded overdrafts and how they might work.
I think for JA this could be an invaluable feature.

Switching between accounts is pretty frustrating. Same with legacy accounts so itā€™s not really a gripe at Monzo. I was hoping it would be I dunnoā€¦ maybe just a bit more flexible to use.

Instead of an account switcher, how about an account filter? Probably already been mentioned, sorry, most things already have! That way you could show all accounts at the same time if you chose to do so. Total balance. All payments. All transactions. Nice and simple. No switching. For making payments, simply ask where the money is coming from, just like when you do a transfer between accounts.
We spend from both accounts, personal account for own stuff and the joint account for house bills and house stuff like food shopping.

It would likely really help the spending screen being combined too as you would get a real clear picture of where your money is going and what cash youā€™ll have at the end of the period. At the moment, I have to switch between the two to work this out. At the end of the day itā€™s all my money that I can technically spend if the agreement with my other half was there to do so.

I was trying to move some money from my sole account to the joint account which would have taken me into overdraft but that wasnā€™t allowed on the move money screen? Instead I made a normal payment to another account and then into the joint account instead.

The not having an overdraft on the joint account is an issue. Maybe if both parties are eligible for an overdraft, you can assign a matched amount from each person to the joint account. This is then equally divided when moving into overdraft between the two amounts (behind the scenes)? If the other person wants to reduce their overdraft liability, it reduces the other persons amount equally, but the other way would require some confirmation - or a slider with the max you want to allow for the joint account, then itā€™s matched with the other user?

The ring-fenced amount would then not be available in your sole account.

I know the CASS service isnā€™t available for joint accounts yet but is it possible to do this a different way? Forgive my lack of knowledge in this area but do they offer the switch service through their website instead of through the Monzo app?

I want to move the majority, but not all of my direct debits from my main Monzo account to my joint one and I dread the thought of being stuck for hours on end in call centre queues ringing each one to update my account details :sob:

Payday today :raised_hands: so been doing my normal shuffling money around places which means also using my legacy joint account for bills and savings etc. I have 2 joint accounts and 2 savings with them and it has to be said that the accounts overview within the Barclays app is significantly clearer and easier to understand than in Monzo and moving money around between those accounts is simple and straight forward(I also love the way the accounts can be named which means old accounts can then be re-purposed, which is similiar to pots). I suppose what I getting at is that, for me the account switching/pots interface within Monzo is not as clear, easy or manageable as it is with my Barclays account.

Payday for me too, which means the summary has updated.

This has uncovered an interesting bug, if you schedule a bank transfer to a joint account it doesnā€™t come up in your committed spend, (same with pots)
