Honestly if they start getting involved with things like this i’d full on consider moving to starling or nationwide.
Loool
Very true
A bank is a political entity by virtue of being part of the financial system, I’m not sure why this struggles to register with people. I’m no major advocate of turning major societal issues into marketing material, but all banks and building societies do it whether through an app icon or a poster in the window of a branch
What’s that adage that I’m probably misquoting…
“It’s not enough to be neutral, you have to be anti-racist”.
Racism isn’t a political issue, it’s a human rights one. I want to see the companies I patronise use their platform to drive a change.
I realise this probably the wrong way to look at this issue, but I really like that from a design point of view.
And when was the last time someone saw your Monzo app icon?
I saw a woman with a Monzo card today, I spotted the coral from 2m! But I didn’t care whether she has the pride Monzo icon or not. It’s her choice. I feel like this issue isn’t one that you can be on side of or not. You aren’t asking for it to be Labour red, or Chelsea blue, you’re supporting what’s right.
Does it harm anyone? Nope.
Do you have to have it as your icon? Nope.
Go for it.
Honestly I do not understand why people get so outraged by something that doesn’t affect them at all and isn’t even compulsory for them to do.
I support this. I wouldn’t have it as my icon necessarily but heck who am I to say what is and isn’t a good way to show support for this movement which, by the way, is about human lives and not a political movement.
Racist’s pride. All the more reason to do it.

It just amazes me the reaction this has caused for those against an icon… it’s unbelievable. Why would it be such an outrage that you would “strongly consider” switching bank
What happened to Donnie’s post?
percent in favour of this!
I’m surprised that “all lives matter” hasn’t been mentioned yet

Looks like a few spicy posts got removed overnight - there was probably some “but all lives matter” pants-pissing in there.
I think this rant is maybe the best way of expressing how I feel on the matter.
I don’t need the app icon changed to prove how I feel about BLM.
Give it as an option, sure thing, but don’t force the issue.
This. Monzo has much bigger and urgent matters to be dealing with to do with its own future.
As an investor, I would frankly be thinking that if someone at Monzo has time to do this, in the current situation, that’s potentially someone who could be furloughed or potentially made redundant by the business as they are likely to be underemployed.
I know some will think that’s harsh but that’s how most businesses operate and how Monzo has to think in the current circumstances if it wants to prosper
You really are taking this a little too seriously.
Someone is underemployed because they spent 10 minutes changing an icon? Wow.
- Someone would have to design it.
- Someone would need to approve it.
- Someone would need to add it to the app (X2)
- Someone would need to test it works.
- Someone would need to do all the PR/emails/ Comms/Media strategy saying Monzo has done this and it’s an option you can choose.
Etc.
It’s not as simple or quick as you think it would be.
