Inbound & Outbound scheduled payments sorting

I want to be able to set the order in which scheduled payments happen.

Sometimes I get paid at the end of the month on the last day, this goes to my personal account. My bills come out of a joint account, and if I want to transfer between the two from a bills pot, some of these payments happen on the same day.

Every now and then, usually on months with 30 or less days, payment ordering gets messed up when scheduled payments for the 31st get brought forward.

It’s minor, but it seems like a nice QoL improvement.

I just want to be able to set and forget payments into a bills point, and transfers to my joint account without having to undo payments because they came out in the wrong order, putting me into my overdraft needlessly.

Then adjust the days or do it manually.

Debits and credits happen at the different times. This is a banking standard.

Why would I do this manually? That’s what I’m trying to avoid by asking for QoL features. It’s literally the point of this part of the forum.

You’re causing your own hardship by stacking them.

You can easily set and forget if you don’t try and have it the way you’re currently doing it.

I’m not sure I understand what your asking but here goes.

If you’re talking about Direct Debits, Monzo has no control over this. It’s the person/company requesting the money that states what day they want it to come out of (and you should get advance notice as it will appear in your feed at least 1 day earlier).
The same applies to card payments, minus the advance notice part.

Standing orders is something you have some control over. They can repeat, and “last day of the month” is an option.
Scheduling pot transfers can also be done, but only between pots/main of the same account. (no scheduling transfers from personal account to joint pot).

If you’re talking about moving money on payday, then have you tried using the Salary Sorter instead of scheduling it?

It’s generally best practice to avoid having scheduled payments on the same day as each other, as well as avoiding payday (if payday changes each month, then move your payments to start after the last theoretical day). I get paid towards the end of the month, but I have my payments spread out between 1st and 7th so that I can ensure I have the funds.

My account operates contrary to this best practice.

Everything happens on the 1st of the month.

Income arrives at 01:00
SO and DDs go out after that time (so no issue) and so I wake up to a minimal balance, with all the transactions for the month completed

I’m looking to automate some money movements I make when I receive my salary.

I can schedule some payments, but the closest option I have is “last day of the month” to repeat my transfers. That works, but that’s not ideal.

Options I can think of:

  • Have a way in the app to specify what I want to do once my salary hits: send X to a joint account, send Y to a savings account, etc.
  • Have a way to repeat a schedule on the “last weekday of the month”. However, this is more error prone as companies pays salaries in different days (my partner gets their salary on last Friday of the month… so :man_shrugging:)

Revolut can do it without any action (other than initial setup), and does so when the payment arrives:

Automated to Savings, Pockets, Joint etc. paid early is also automatic.

As for the second part, Revolut will work this (recognises sender and amount within 20% and automates the sort regardless of what day it comes in).

Just stumbled across this eye sore.
