Help Us Improve Shared Tabs

Amazing @VaniGoel those sounds like really good improvements!

This is great! But can you PLEASE fix the issue where payments from tabs come back categorised as General? Been this way ever since becoming a Plus user, now Perks.

Hi, id really like to see functionality to add %age splits to a shared tab.

Partner and I don’t split always split 50:50 so being able to add a 60:40 or custom %age split would be super helpful.

Thanks @VaniGoel for your response.

We’re delighted to see more traction on shared tabs. This is a quality of life improvement in all ways. I noticed a few bugs in the current shared tabs functionalities. I’ll leave them below for you to feedback:

• If one person leaves the tab, the other person can no longer remove the payments which was split between the user that left the tab.

• Non-split payments can be removed even after they leave though.

• Also adding payments work even after they left whole of this makes no sense and is non consistent behaviour.

• Also, if one person leaves they can’t be added again to the shared tab. (But they can join back to the shared tab using the QR code)

I’ll also post this in the bugs thread but I posted it here as I thought it could easily be fed back to the specific team from here.

Hi! Another big ‘shared tab’ user here - my main use case is that myself and my partner manage our shared stuff via a shared tab rather than a joint account. Anything either of us spends on behalf of both of us goes on there (includes literally everything, it’s already a hilariously big total and we plan to use it indefinitely!)

We occasionally have what we’ve dubbed a ‘tab’ session where we go back through a bulk of payments and add them into the tab, and then periodically settle up if one of us has spent a lot more - this has always been a bit tricky because you have to scroll through the main ‘statement’ screen and click on them one by one. I’ve only recently noticed the option via the shared tab screen to ‘add expenses’ which is so great (sorry if it’s been there for ages!). The main thing that would make it perfect, would be for it to show when items had already been added to the tab - either disabled tick box or some other identifier. The experience of ticking something, being told it’s been successfully added and then nothing changing on the tab is quite confusing.

Love the feature though thanks for all the work!

+1 for splitting a bill by percentage. Currently we can only split direct debits equally in a shared tab, would love to be able to split some by a certain % per person.

I love using the Monzo app daily and have been here since 2017.

This week I’ve come up with two new suggestions.

We all use shared tabs. Two new suggestions:-

The ability to download all the transductions from a tab into a csv or excel file.

The ability to just close-archive a tab that still has outstanding payments etc. i.e.
I set up a holiday tab two years ago with the wife. I know that entire trip was funded by me. So I just want to close the tab rather than fake some transaction from the wife that gets the tab to zero and then I can archive it etc.

Thanks
Matt

We already have the ability to link a 3rd party account using open banking to see balances in the Monzo app.

It would be great if this could be extended to fetch recent transactions to allow for bill splitting transactions made on those accounts.

For example I have my AMEX card linked to the Monzo app so I can see the balance, when I make a purchase on that card sometimes I want to split the cost with friends or my partner, currently I have to add a custom bill split to achieve this.

I imagine there would be a way to add an option to the bill split creation flow to query transactions from a linked account to be able to populate a custom bill with the correct amount and description.

I new to this website. However I feel that the improvements are not suited to all. When I first joined Monzo I thought everything was perfect for me, but it keeps getting to difficult for someone who finds Smartphone & PC’s difficult to understand. My daughter is writing this for me as she understands Smartphone & PC’s. Maybe Monzo should ask their customers first before any new improvement.

This is exactly what this topic is? Or do you think Monzo should ask ALL customers what they think of every change?

I wouldn’t expect Monzo to contact every customer, rather take a percentage like 10/20% also at different ages, from working customers to being on some sort of DWP. That way they get an over all veiw.

There’s all those types and then some here in the community.

Finally, thank you so so so so so much for partial settlement of shared tabs. You have no idea how much this is needed for us. Thanks a ton again :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Is partial settlement live? I don’t have it in my app yet.

Not yet, but we finally have confirmation it’s coming soon!

Bumping up as we are still waiting patiently for this :+1:

Doubt they stopped working on it because the thread died.

1, on the tab when clicking add expense, that transaction list isn’t searchable, which would be nice.

2, if the settle amount is under the monzo.me limit of £500 then offer debit card payment or open banking link, that will work over £500 , maybe also display my Monzo bank details? 1 click copy would be nice as well.

Open banking payments could also be a general monzo.me improvement and cost savings to Monzo.

I get this error when trying to join a tab with an email address, login is fine but the invite link gives this in the developer tool:

“code”: “bad_request.bad_param.preferred_name.idempotency_failure”,
“message”: “Error creating profile for guest”,
“params”: {
“request_preferred_name”: “ewe”,
“stored_preferred_name”: “”,
“user_id”: “redacted”
},
“retryable”: {},
“marshal_count”: 4,
“message_chain”: [
“Request failed idempotency check”,
“Idempotency check failed”
],
“unexpected”: {}
}

I think the issue is an old bug, I tested right when shared tabs came out and got this, seems like it’s fixed for new email addresses but the issue persists for old email addresses, if you need the user ID then PM me.

Also splitting a transaction where the other person owes over £500 just gives a generic error when going to the Monzo.me – Send money instantly through a link … link.
(This is not in a shared tab, just split a single transaction)

Hello all,

We’re working hard to improve Shared Tabs and make them even better to meet all your needs. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

  • Now you can include transactions from connected accounts (once settled), Flex accounts, joint accounts, P2P payments, and more.
  1. Edit tab names:
  • You can now rename a Shared Tab after it’s been created, giving you more flexibility.

Coming Soon:

  1. Customise your tab’s background image (ETA: 2 weeks)
  • Add or change the background image of your tab to make it more personal and fun!
  1. Part-pay what you owe (ETA: 4–6 weeks)
  • You’ll soon be able to partially pay off what you owe in a tab, making it easier to manage large balances.
  1. Record payments made outside the tab (ETA: 4–6 weeks)
  • If a payment was made via cash, another app, or bank transfer, you’ll be able to mark it as paid in the tab, keeping everything accurate and organised.

Will we be able to add recurring payments from connected cards to shared tabs?
