How can it be human error when ive never authorised this?
Nobody else could have done it.
Just pay the dues and move on.
You have to set or agree to Express Transit when adding a card or going into the settings. It’s not possible for it to just be allocated without you saying.
If you add a card and tap through the process quick enough it is easy enough to miss but it’s definitely “authorised” by you at some point.
Long story short, you should use this, pick the card you want to use in the Wallet settings.
Now when you want to use your card for travel you don’t need to double press the lock button or bring up your wallet. You just hold your phone to the reader and the card you selected for express travel will be automatically used.
Interesting. I wonder what they’re being charged then? Maybe there’s some rounding from the OP with the figure we’ve been given because what they’re saying definitely sounds like a scenario where the maximum fare would be charged. Shame we’ll never actually know since they won’t be able to pull up their journey history.
I think contactless journey history is about the last public-facing bit of their IT that’s not back online, so hopefully it’ll be back soon.
The latest charge was a flat £10 and it was not refunded. Previous times when it happened it was still £10 but pending and then refunded. The latest one is the only one that wasn’t refunded. The TfL site outage is very frustrating but I have not ever added flex to the autopay and for this to be done automatically seems very wrong.
It’s not automatically.
If you tap in and not out you get charged the full amount I think.
You might not have done this knowingly or on purpose but you have done it. Suck it up and move on.
Do you have any screenshots? It’s honestly not a fare I’ve ever seen on TfL. I can’t work out how you’d get to a round £10.
So I was randomly refunded £0.10 for it last night so it’s now saying £9.90. I have also added a previous charge for more than the full days fare, this one was refunded automatically, and the actual transactions from my debit card.
I tap in at my station in zone 6 and out at the end of the line, no additional tubes or taps. Same journey home.
Note: it’s not letting me share the debit charges so I’ll post these in a reply.
Okay the 10p is the initial authorisation charge when you use any card for the first time, this is normal and explains how £9.90 became £10.
So essentially it unfortunately looks like Flex was set to Express Travel and this is what has happened.
I think that could be the case, though it seems impossible to confirm now I’ve removed the card from Apple Pay, but what it doesn’t explain is how both cards are being charged. I am not using express pay, I am using Apple Pay, though express seems to have been activated in the background.
Tapped in using Apple Pay screen.
Tapped out phone locked or not on the Apple Pay screen.
Just let it go.
I’m told this is back working again now and some journey history is visible again. Worth taking a look.
