You can do this now with IFTTT.
Thats a third party doing it, not Monzo doing it automatically.
I realise that. But if you want to do it now and not wait months/years/ever then thatās an option.
I used to do this but sadly IFTTT changed it so more than 3 things (canāt remember what they call them ) are now on a paid plan . Now Iām just using a custom webapp that listens to monzo Web hooks, granted not everyone can do this but I couldnāt find an alternative.
I have about 6 for various retailers and it only seems to count it as one of you use Platform.
interesting. I had around 9 i think and it said I was 6 over. Maybe it was the way I configured them
When setting up recurring payments, for adding the termination date, it would be better if the label were āMake last payment on dateā rather than āStop repeating on dateā. With the current wording, itās unclear if the last payment will go out on the date you have entered, or the day before.
If payments are monthly I just pick a date half way in between planned last payment and the next payment not to have to worry!
I totally get the point and agree with it though!
If as described by @projectfortytwo, itās a breach of something, surely.
Your partner should not be able to discover your personal/private credit card numbers from payments made out of your personal/private current account because your joint account just happens to make payments to the same credit card provider. And your private credit card number shouldnāt be stored in your partnerās private list of payees.
If true, you could abuse this. Anyone with a joint account who was suspicious of their partner holding hidden debts could fire off 1p payments to various lenders from their joint account, and then check to see which lenders had account numbers associated with them. That sounds dodgy to me.
Iāve thought of something else. Itās quite minor, but it would be really nice to lose the default Sent from Monzo text in the payment reference. Itās so easy to miss it when sending money somewhere, and my wife and I have both accidentally left it in place when paying bills or other people. If itās a personal payment, then a phone call can usually rectify it, but I would prefer to not have the default text there, and make it either mandatory to add a reference, or at least make it more prominent that itās there to type into.
What about a simple thing: PDF statement for individual payments / transactions
Although it doesnāt have much love, itās a deal breaker for me not ādiving deeperā with Monzo.
We have improvements planned for references as part of the payee work. They definitely leave a lot to be desired! Stay tuned.
Thanks, I will. Thatās (hopefully) good news.
Two main things for me:
- Incoming, non-Monzo payments counting as an increase to budget. If my girlfriend pays me for the weekly shop without using Monzo.me then my budget is inaccurate as it shows I paid for both of us, because that payment (even when categorised) doesnāt increase my budget.
- Being able to categorise moving money into a pot. I buy most stuff via Amex, so I wanted to move money into a pot just for that direct debit whilst budgeting. But I canāt do that, as I canāt categorise the money moved there. Instead I have to have a separate current account that I can send payments to, with the direct debit coming from there.
Another thing thatās just cropped up for me, have the ability to see another monzo contacts joint account as an option to pay into, not just their sole account.
This could be a toggle to the user to see if they want their joint account visible on the contacts payee list
Some great ideas in this thread.
Not sure if the below have been mentioned already but this is what came to mind:
-
The ability to schedule / set re occurring internal transfers between personal and joint accounts
-
The ability to pause an existing re occurring transfer for x cycles rather than having to delete it and set it up again
If @kavi or @robinb have a chance, do read this:
Iāve having more or less the same experience again (although a few of the minor pain points do seem to have been fixed ) and thought it would be useful to share a personal experience.
A brief progress update:
- Weāve built a new payee profile ā itās not radically different but we hope itās a bit more intuitive and allows us to do a few more things much better later on (linking other flows etc.)
- Thereās an improved add new bank account screen ā not the most beautiful screen I have ever created but itās very functional! It now has the ability to add a default reference to a given bank account, and you can also now edit bank accounts (without deleting and creating a new one)
Hopefully weāll be in a position to release these first bits fairly soon (weeks). Thereās also plenty more to come that we have planned ā editing payees is up next ā but somehow itās already November
Sounds great!
Excited to see the first updates here, and thank you for keeping us in the loop
Sounds like good improvements and thanks for the update!
