Continously being asked for PIN when using phone to pay

Ever since I’ve used Monzo on my phone, it asks me for my pin after a few low value transactions (Like paying for a pint of beer)

For past 24 hours, its been asking me for PIN for every transaction

I have a Samsung phone and the only card in my Google wallet is my Monzo card

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I’ve had this every time today. PITA. Almost certainly a Google Wallet issue rather than Monzo.

It’s Google Wallet.

Google wallet has changed recently. If you unlock your phone with fingerprint and its less than 3 minutes since you did that, it wont be required. If you use face unlock, it’ll ask for pin or fingerprint everytime.

Yeah, but it’s also changed today or yesterday. I’ve required to confirm with my fingerprint for every transaction today.

It’s a real nuisance… I’ve had to turn off face unlock on android to avoid this new Google wallet “feature” …

Its a google wallet feature and thats the way it works unfortunately. You’d have to complain to google

You’re not listening. Up until VERY recently I was able to pay after unlocking my phone, occasionally being asked to reverify in the Pay app.

Today, I unlock my phone then have to verify again for every payment. This is NEW behaviour.

You’re not listening. It’s a Google wallet feature so is to do with Google wallet, not monzo

The lack of security was what kept pushing me towards Samsung Wallet. Perfectly happy with Google Wallet to include more measures to protect my cards.

I get that, Google not Monzo - I was trying to help the OP, but it’s not the way it works, that’s the point.

The issue is that we can’t be sure of the exact situation the OP has been using Google wallet under. It may be that it is working exactly as planned but the OP hasnt realised. We’ve given the information about Google Wallet. There’s very little else anyone can do as it isn’t a Monzo feature.

I mean, we’re allowed to talk about it, even on a Monzo forum. But I won’t any more.

I’m not saying you can’t talk about it. It’s just the best cause of action at this point is probably looking at Google help sites, rather than Monzo.

So wait, you’re in a shop about to pay and you know you’re going to need a pin or fingerprint, but the only way to get that prompt to come up is to tap to pay, then wait for the challenge on device, then tap to pay again?

Am I reading between the lines right here? If so that’s absolutely infuriating!

You are correct.

Edit: actually you could unlock your phone, open wallet, verify in wallet and then pay.

But still, two fingerprints before you can pay.

I’m running Android 15 beta. It’s not the first time this has broken Wallet. I wonder if OP is running a beta version too.

To clarify for others, just using stock Samsung Phone that’s uptodate

I’ve had other people look at settings and they can’t see anything amiss with them

Probably is a google wallet issue but since I only have a Monzo card on it - it’s hard to tell
I’ve added a Lloyds card to it now and going to try using that when next out shopping to see what happens.

I’ll just have to go back to using the card if it stays like this with the phone.

Which would be a shame, as I’ve got used to not carrying it around with me for past 3 years

Sorry. I may have missed it, but how are you unlocking your phone?

On my Android, if I do face unlock and go to google wallet, it says I must verify myself before I can pay.

If I do fingerprint unlock and go to wallet (within 3 minutes of the unlock), the message isn’t there.

If you unlock with fingerprint, it should just be one fingerprint needed (though if you’re on a beta, you know the risks)
