Coin Jar Feedback Thread

Thinking about this. I would actually prefer that the transaction data for the amount that goes into the coin jar to be hidden until you go into the transaction details. I have provided two screenshots below, 1 of the feed and the other of the transaction details.

EDIT: I realise the transaction details has the wrong date for the description text. It’s just a mock up

Coin Jar is awesome! There needs to be some easy way for those not on the community to identify and use the feature.

The notifications are annoying. I’m going to turn off coinjar. I’ll turn it back on when I can disable notifications

I really like this Coin Jar! However, I think it would be improved by moving money such that the balance on the main account is whole pounds rather than the price of purchase. At the moment my balance ends in .17, and as far as I understand will continue to do so forever unless I transfer 83p into my account, or run my balance to below £10 and somehow manage to spend 17p before I top up again. (This mildly offends my sensibilities.)

I think my suggestion is similar to the Precise Coin Jar that Simon suggested.

Just either transfer that 17p to your jar or take 83p from the jar to the account. I had to transfer 1p from the jar the other day after a 1p card check payment. Couldn’t live with my balance being £9.99

Would love to, but exactly how did you do this? Transferring money between pots in the iOS app seems to only be possible in multiples of £5. Is there some hidden functionality I am not aware of that lets me transfer smaller amounts?

If you tap on the 5 you can enter any amount, a key pad comes up

The coin jar is a brilliant idea! I cant believe how quickly it builds up. I hope it becomes a permanent feature :ok_hand:t4:

I totally agree with that!

Works well but I only found about it when I was in the Help section of the app searching for something unrelated.

There should be an ‘Experiment’ field that shows new additions.

The pot should have more of an indication that its a collection jar over a normal pot.

Having now really started using these fully (now I’ve had a full paycheck go in), we do need some way to hide the Coin Jar notifications, even a simple slider of ‘show’ or ‘hide’ as this really does interfere with the interface.

I believe this would be a great option to check them when needed, but hide to see actual spending.

Yeah the notifications are annoying, maybe have an icon next to the transaction that its been rounded to the Coin Jar.

How much do you budget for it?

I think it would be good to be able to select a charity as the destination for my coinjar.

I feel a bit guilty about the luxury of my coffee on the way to work. Obvs I could just transfer coinjar to wateraid or shelter but would be nice to know it’s just ticking away automatically

That’s actually a good idea, a coin jar that at the end of the month sends the collected amount to a selected charity

Have used the coin jar since it became available, I have taken time to consider what would look the best really regarding notifications & I think the coin jar amount shown as a foreign transaction would be great. E.g - show the amount spent on purchase as usual and then a greyed entry under that amount in the same notification to show how much was transferred to coin jar.

Also, would love to see the individual transactions in the coin jar as it only shows the balance.

Great stuff though :+1:

@cookywook can you make your app more amazing and add support for GIFS for coin jar. Imagine an image that moves. One possibly of the holiday I seen on YouTube and turned into a GIF. Or even the house i want.

I echo the sentiments about the notifications cluttering up the transaction timeline. I feel this feature would come into its own by making it near-invisible. No notifications, just send my money there so I can dip in when necessary. If you need a reminder that it’s on, a status icon would work, either stand alone at the top somewhere, or in the corner of each eligible transaction (either by the amount, or in the corner of the company logo maybe) so you know which transactions are affected by the coin jar and which aren’t much more cleanly.

I also feel that the coin jar shouldn’t take money until the amount is finalised (i.e. international transactions) or maybe not include these transaction types at all for coin jar. I bought something internationally that was converted to £35.80 initially, so coin jar took 20p. The exchange rate settled at £35.90, making the overall transaction £36.10. That’s just me though, might not be how others feel.

I think this is a cool way to put money into savings without needing to think about it. The more invisible it is, the better though in my opinion.

I still don’t trust myself to save so it would be great if you could temporarily lock the funds in some way to stop you spending them!

It would be pretty cool if we had the option to round direct debits!
