Cifas Marker and Monzo closed my account?

Hey there me once again
So on the 27th of july my monzo account was closing and they need me to provide an alternate bank to send my money to but the problem is that i have a cifas marker and cant have any other bank account, neither do i have any family i send it to and friends are not trust worthy. has anyone got any other options as monzo said thats the ONLY way they can return my money?

Have you spoken to the high street banks for a basic bank account option, as recommended in your other thread?

most high street banks require you to be over 18 for a basic account with no credit facilities and im only 16 still. I have gone to metro which is the only bank which i know of that gives 16+ basic accounts and was told to wait 3 days for a reply, i didnt get one 2 weeks later i went again and they told me the same thing (that was 3 weeks ago.)

Hello again. Just a quick reminder to please not create multiple topics on the same subject. Thanks!

What did Monzo say when you told them this??

Try local credit union they may have an account that can be used at your age and which accepts incoming payments for monzo to send to

in their final response letter they said that theres nothing they can do and need a non monzo uk account

ill have alook but i dont think there is any near where i live

there is only one where i live, i found it on that website and its 18+ which doesnt help :frowning:

its amazing what problems this causes for people who dont understand the consequences of “earning” easy money …and I know you are using the excuse of being young , but it really does need better education of finances and the way the world works if you are caught up in premeditated fraud, hope you get a solution …

all banks seem to have an account for 16 year olds. Keep applying and see if any accept you

If you are under 18 and without family, do you have a social worker who can help you? Obviously I don’t expect them to use their personal account, but they might at least be able to provide an account you can get the funds sent to and then be given cash, while you search for a bank account?

im not using it as an excuse to get pitty or whatever you want to call it, im just stating facts. I was stupid. i was gullable and i was a kid (still am) but thats the easiest target for fraudsters. And i believe that santander should fix their account opening process.

This is my story if youre interested. So i was young early 15 at the time and was approached on snapchat by john <— pseudonym and john here offered me somewher ein the neighbourhood of 5000£ and for a 15 year old THATS A LOT OF MONEY, there was a small catch though… i had to hand over my bank account for a few days but i didnt have one so i told him that and his reply was “go to santanders website and get one you dont even need your parental permission” and guess what i did? I got an account PHEW FINALLY I CAN BE A BIG BOY! well then i was asked to hand over all details of the account and meet up to give over my card which i was promised to get back in a couple of days alongside the cash. that couple of days dragged out a couple weeks and i was on holiday then got a call from the bank asking if i recieved a payment from someone and a ccouple hours earlier i got a message from john saying that they transfered me 800£ so i told the bank yeah 800£ should have come in from david and the bank said yeah thats fine no problem. I come back home and get another call from santander saying my account was being closed and they are no longer welcoming my business and they are putting a cifas marker on my name for first party fraud.

if i keep trying and getting declined would that ruin my credit score? i meanyes i know that i already have a fraud marker but wouldnt that make it worse?

Can’t you ask your girlfriend if you can give Monzo her account details to get the money back?

Your credit score is worth nothing for the next six years. Don’t worry about your credit score

It does seem a bit ironic that Monzo want you to provide an alternative bank account when they don’t consider you eligible for banking services.

Surely a cheque (which you could cash at somewhere like Ramsdens) or a postal order could be arranged, for a fee. Given the levels of fraud in the UK, this can’t be an uncommon scenario for banks.

I wouldn’t want my account linked to receiving funds from an account closed by a bank belonging to someone associated with fraud. Perhaps make her aware of the situation first? :worried:

i might be a naive fool but isn’t that something you’d have already told your gf?
