Changes to debit card top ups

Hey everyone, as part of the work to add debit card top ups to current accounts, we’re making some changes to reduce the risk of fraud and money laundering. For current accounts, only debit cards cards from the following countries will be able to used for top ups:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • UK
  • United States

Cards from countries outside this list won’t be able to be used.

For those that have already used cards from countries outside of this list to top up your prepaid cards, they won’t be available for top ups after upgrading to the current account.

For those still using prepaid, you will still be able to top up with cards you’ve previously used, but won’t be able to add new cards from countries outside of this list.

This is a mixture of countries which are both in the EEA (European Economic Area) and a part of FATF (Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering), and some other countries which have been hand-picked. This list of countries should cover over 99% of the topups we currently see on prepaid, so very few people should be affected.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thanks!

Great news that debit card top ups are a step closer.

I wish you had put that list in alphabetical order though. I nearly had s heart attack when I couldn’t find UK :relieved:

Will Apple Pay be available for top ups?

You really should be accepting debit cards from the whole of the Euro area.

Thank you @anon72173902

Thank you @Jami

All is now clear :+1::+1:

I always assumed that the top-up feature was only for UK Cards so pleasantly surprised that you can use such a wide variety!

Will this list me the same for new monzo.me when it returns? Can’t see that I’d top-up my account from a foregin card but getting a gift from overseas relatives via monzo.me might be a possibility!

Why is Australia green in OP or is it just my tired eyes

Hi Jami,

Thanks for the update mate.

Just as a general question, why isn’t there a general tracker thread for new and the return of features with say a percentage completed or something similar? I think this would be a good way to know of the progress being made on things such as the return of the Apple Pay topups for new CA or for the further away features such as Cashback which may not even come to fruition.

To be honest that’s mostly what I come here on the forum for, checking updates to timelines for features and I’m sure I’m not the only one

It’s not just you! The forums’ highlighting for computer programs is being triggered—I’ve reformatted the OP to not use the code styling

I have my update in standby to be able to do it when the CA caters for the top up (already received my card but haven’t completed the “migration” yet)

I literally come to the forum every other day to see if there is any update on that :joy::joy::joy:

If feasible I think that status check on features would be great (assuming they can estimate and quantify the time it will take without jeopardising customer expectations which has been a difficult task to handle sometimes)

Anyway thumbs up to Monzo for all the work they have done, they way they engage with customers, the services they provide and the transparency they try to promote to the best of their abilities.

Glad to be onboard

Is this in line with the high risk and non cooperative countries etc etc?

edit: I should read a whole post

:raised_hands:

So…are we close to topups? I am desperate for topups, Android Pots and Apple Pay. Not because I want them, but because I want the rest of the list behind them!

We’re closer than we were a week ago, if that helps :grinning:
