Card Stopped Working - Contactless or Chip and PIN

Hi all,

Been using my card for about 2 weeks now with no issues until yesterday. Firstly i tried to pay for a cab and contactless wasn’t detected and on chip and PIN it didn’t recognise the card. Then this morning i went to a local One Stop shop where i’ve used the card before and again it didn’t work. Contactless the machine didn’t even recognise the card and when i inserted the card for chip and PIN it just kept saying “please reinsert card”.

Any advice would be really appreciated.



My advice would be contact Monzo Customer Operations thru in app chat, they can help you better than users on the community

Looks like your card is damaged.
Contact COps via the app and they’ll get a replacement sent out to you.

Thanks all will do! Seems strange that a card is damaged after just 2 weeks. Kept in my wallet with all my other cards and is in pristine condition…

Yeah - sometimes, hardware malfunctions (the EMV chip for contactless, and the chip used during Chip&PIN payments). Can’t be avoided unfortunately.
