Can't add card to Pixel Watch

Hello,

I have my card on my phone’s Google Wallet and it works with no issue.

I’m trying to add my card to the Wallet on my Google Pixel Watch 3 Wallet, and I’m unsuccessful, it says it can’t finish the card setup (see screenshot below)

Is there any known reason?

Many thanks!

Nico

Phone: Google Pixel 8 Pro - Android and all apps fully up to date
Watch: Pixel Watch 3 - OS and all apps fully up to date
I’m in the UK.

I also tried creating a virtual card just for the Pixel Watch and add it, with the same negative result.

Hi @camelreef & welcome

I’m currently using a Pixel 8 Pro with all the Monzo cards and loyalty cards successfully imported into Google Wallet on that device. I also have a OnePlus watch 3, which runs the Google Wallet app on WearOS. Google Wallet on the watch, once authorised with the phone, imported the bank/loyalty cards automatically. I can tap the watch & pay with the chosen card or show the loyalty info.

Could this be as simple as you not trying to add directly to the Px watch’s wallet, but instead authorise the Px watch to use the Px8Pro’s wallet data? I suspect settings for this may be in the ‘watch’ app on the Px8Pro.

I tried the above, but couldn’t find the setting for the automatic sync of cards. It must be in, though, as my loyalty cards showed up with no intervention from me.

I tried removing the card from the phone’s wallet and re added it, successfully. It still doesn’t want to add it to the watch.

I’ve tried looking for a wallet app reset (cache and data) on the watch, but could only find uninstall, which reverts to the updated version. Did that, updated again, same lack of success…

It may be something locked on Monzo’s side, as the initial setup of the watch failed midway, but after a wallet setup and authorisation, and I had to restart from scratch.

Where and how to I contact Monzo directly, I keep reading about an in-app function, but I really can’t find it, to the point if feeling inadequate!

And thank you for the welcome!

Don’t suppose you’ve found a solution to this? I’m having the same problem on Pixel Watch 3. Have tried to add a card from another bank too and I get the same error. Wondering if it’s a watch problem?

I have the pixel watch two and have all my Monzo cards on both my phone and pixel watch 2 Google wallet apps.

Couple of points from how I set it up-

  • I’ve always set up the phone google wallet app first (no idea if it makes a difference).
  • when adding to your phone it’s quicker to add from directly within the Monzo app as you don’t need to re-authenticate (but you can’t do that for the watch as there isn’t a native watch Monzo app).
  • there was an earlier comment about loyalty cards automatically syncing across from the phone wallet app to the watch without any action needed but payment cards don’t - this is by design so you need to authenticate adding payment methods to any new devices (e.g. if you get a new phone your loyalty cards will auto appear but not payment cards).
  • to add to my watch I opened the wallet app and scrolled to the bottom to add a new payment card (which then tells you to continue on your phone). On the phone you can select an existing payment card already registered in your Google wallet so if you do that it means you don’t have to re-enter ALL of the information. You’ll be prompted to provide authentication by signing into the Monzo app and approving it.
  • after the above you should get confirmation to go back to the wallet app workflow window on your phone and you’ll see it has been added to your watch.

I just did these steps using an MBNA credit card (my Monzo cards already all already on both my phone and watch wallet apps) and it worked as expected.

Hope that helps
