Barclays Mortgage refusing Monzo

Clearly not, or I wouldn’t ask the question.

You said “more mature and acceptance of it on a par with other banks”, so maturity was outside/beyond any acceptance issue.

But whatever.

Good idea. I’ve looked into it and would need to pay a fee or transfer all my direct debits over.
I’m not prepared to do that for one mortgage direct debit.

Looking at the scheme, even if you only paid your mortgage from the account, if would be outweigh any fees.

With respect, you seem to be trying to find a problem where there is none.

Unfortunately Barclays are discontinuing Blue Rewards from next month

I’ve had to provide an old Nationwide account just to progress with my mortgage. Not the best experience.

Are you sure? I thought they were closing their Premier Rewards scheme not Blue Rewards?

I’ve just flagged this with the team and they’ve been in touch with Barclays recently about this :pray:t3:

Any update on this? Has Barclays acknowledged their error and said they’ll update systems?

It’s been less than 2 hours!

:joy: sorry I’ve only noticed the “just” in the message.
I thought he meant they’d been in touch recently.
I’m not that demanding, promise!

The annoying thing is, someone at Barclays will know it’s fine to use Monzo and there’s probably a way around it in their system. But the person you’re talking to gives a “Computer says no” and that’s that.

You’ll set the DD up somewhere else and then move it over and they won’t have an issue with it. It’s so stupid.

That’s exactly my plan. Initial setup with Nationwide then I’ll change it online or over the phone later.

I wonder if it’s direct with Barclays or wether there is another intermediary in the chain. I know when I got my mortgage it was with Skipton through a broker who used (iirc) L&G mortgage club

Time for Monzo to start offering mortgages?

The fact I had to recently request paper statements from my bank with each page stamped, only to then have to scan them and email to Halifax when applying for a mortgage is just one example of how banks are still in the dark ages with this type of stuff.

The thought of applying for a mortgage all within the Monzo app, completely digitised, is very appealing.

Wouldn’t a PDF work?

Nope. I tried…

Out of interest, are you going via a mortgage Broker, or direct?

When I had a Halifax mortgage (4 years ago) I provided PDFs from Barclays. When I did our mortgage application with HSBC (18 months ago) I did the same. You’re not the first I’ve heard say that their documents weren’t accepted without being officially stamped, but it just seems odd.

I did a mortgage with Halifax a few months ago. They accepted pdf statements from the banking app I use (Starling).
