Axa travel insurance policy

I asked co-ops a while ago as well and they said it was family cover as well

Yeah, I didn’t see it either, hence I asked

Do you have the cover? Does it specifically mention family in the policy document?

I went for the cover, but apart from my policy number I didn’t get any specific/personalised documents, just the generic ones which don’t mention the word “family” at all…

Must have been blind

That’s a definition not a statement of inclusion in the policy. It’s used for example to exclude close relatives from certain claims and include them for example if you need new accommodation or for example if a close relative dies at home requires you to cancel your trip.

It does not explicitly give the same policy rights to your family via this policy as far as the policy document is concerned.

It appears some clauses refer to ‘you’ and others to you and ‘close relatives’. Gotta hate long t&c’s. Give them a good read over though (I had no idea you could claim if the piste was closed more than 24hours). Here’s one where close relative is mentioned

What your find is that every item of cover within the policy explicitly begins with ‘you’, it does on occasion also state all insured persons. Which in my mind would require you to be very clear who is and isn’t insured.

You should have a document stating specifically who is insured as far as I’m aware.

When people get family insurance do they usually have to give details of the actual family being insured? Did monzo ask for these details?

This isn’t a statement of cover for your family. This is accurate in that if someone at home becomes ill the policy will cover you and your travel companion to get back home. Not if your travel companions family becomes ill. Otherwise that statement if read how your suggesting would cover you and the 50 people you brought along on the coach without them requiring their own insurance. That doesn’t happen.

The policy is quite clear that it either covers ‘you’ or ‘all insured persons’ meaning you really need to check they are actually insured either via monzo other other insurer.

Personally I wouldn’t be happy going abroad with the children with that policy in case of medical expenses, even though it’s billed as family cover. It’s not clear enough on that front. The fact you need to declare if third parties have pre existing medical conditions makes me think it’s fine but I’m a worrier

That’s my thinking. With the way everything is these days being very legally, if it’s not on paper it doesn’t exist imo, as while they can be nice they can also quite rightly say no there name isn’t on the list.

I’ve flagged this up so hopefully we can get a definitive answer about what exactly is covered and for who

A help article covering this would be beneficial imo

It’s advertised as “family travel insurance” but you’d need to check with Monzo if their definition of “whole family” is the same as yours.

A dog is often considered part of the family, are they covered too?

Not listed in the definition. Sorry

I found the description of the cover to difficult to understand hence why I didn’t sign up to it and was just gonna use separate travel insurance

Only if the dog makes the booking, maybe :joy:

I choose not to get Monzo Plus but would be surprised if Monzo didn’t include a Key Facts document in addition to the actual insurance policy… as its a requirement they do so.

For all policies sold in the UK, it is the insurance industry standard and a regulatory requirement, to provide product information in Key Facts documents for existing and potential customers. Key Facts contain a summary of the policy from an insurer, in easy to understand terms.

In fact, both documents should be possible to view/read before signing up to a policy
