Apple : Fall 2018 Event, new iPhones etc

Screw that.

If it can be sold - Sell it. :joy:

£50 - £100 on eBay but that’s effort

I guess it might work out OK for the lower cost items.

But for the newer phones, I’d still go down the selling privately route.

Based on the keynote today I just bought a Samsung S9, they gave me £350 for my iPhone 7! Plus 10% cashback with TopCashback and Amex.

As with ecosystems. I’m quite happy with my Apple TV and iPad for the rest of my iOS needs (Elder scrolls - Blades!).

On a related note, how do I transfer Monzo beta testing to android?

Do you not use Chrome, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Search, Google Drive?

Most people are within the Google ecosystem by default in this respect.

You can sign up directly in the google play app I think.

Does anyone have any views on the X screen size vs the 8 Plus? The X Max looks huuuuuge!

I use iCloud, Apple Maps, Safari etc where I can and yes, Google where I can’t but it’s a pain. I have my passwords stored on iCloud and messages and my storage is there. I use one system for almost everything.

Like I said it’s not, for a lot of people, just a matter of “oh I think I’ll go google now”. There’s a lot to consider.

Question for Apple Watch owners or prospective buyers.

I’ve currently got the Stainless steel Space Black series 0 watch, but I was given it a few years ago (didn’t pay for it).

I love the look of it, but not sure it’s worth £300 more than the space grey aluminium model?!

Annoyingly, the space black steel version only comes with cellular, which I don’t want or need!

Thoughts?

Not approved, has clearance?

And

Thanks, people are going to get confused about this then!

Yeah, quite an interesting thread

The Xr is going to be a huge sellerI think, people who wanted the X but couldn’t afford it will now opt for the Xr. The colours will also entice people, it’s a clever move.

I have the X so I won’t be upgrading this year, I usually skip the ‘S’ models. I think the Max would be too big for me as well. Gonna hold out till the XI (11).

AirPower must be well and truly f’d!

As I thought, the prices are still ridiculous. Will definitely be moving back to android at this rate, probably get the one plus 6t when that comes out

Agreed with most of the above. iPhone was meh, watch was cool.

That said, they are steamrolling everyone on chips. The specs are crazy good, but what does that translate to? Hefty price tag for ~2x performance. If they had a smaller version I’d consider; I’m still trundling along with the SE.

Idly hoping that they’re rebuilding macOS on their own architecture for holy-s@!t laptops – it sure seems like they’ve forgotten about the people who uphold their app ecosystem…

EDIT: What are we going to do with those 5 trillion operations/second? Why, you can measure a box and animate your face like a tiger! And do it for an unprecedented 90 minutes longer!

Just wondering what everyone was expecting from the new phones?

They seem bang on what I would have predicted, strong year on year spec bumps with improved cameras.

If anything I thought they would have gimped the XR a bit more to encourage upgrades to the XS. It’s still to expensive for me but I’m struggling to see the value in paying even more for the XS models. Last year felt like a much bigger gulf between the 8 and X.

And the colours look great. I’m predicting it sells gangbusters and actually leads to a reduction in ASP.

Exactly what you said to be honest, I’m just sad about neglected laptops. :pensive:
