Apple Products

I thought I’d re-create this thread to cover the only tech brand that matters.

@JIMMWX Here you go :slightly_smiling_face:

Why thank you

I wouldn’t go as far as that mind, I don’t mind Android and If that’s your thing, cool.

That said there’s still something magical about apple that I’ve not had with many other products. “It just works” being the main one.

Having said all of that, I’m feeling that, and I don’t think it’s an apple specific thing, more generally across smartphones, there’s a slowdown of innovation.

At one point new iPhone releases were very exciting mainly because the design of features were ground-breakingly different. Doesn’t feel that way now.

That all said, super interested in what comes next iPhone wise. Maybe see it if is worth upgrading when the iPhone 18 releases. The 16 isn’t and can’t see the 17 being either as it stands.

I would, and further

Agreed, there isn’t as much consumer-visible innovation these days. Silicon innovation is still strong but it’s not really something a consumer sees, other than through performance gains.

Battery tech is seeing some real leaps lately, but unsure when these will reach products.

I do feel that my iPhone 16 Pro battery is better than previous models. I’m at 239 cycles and still at 100% health. I’ve always lost health at a much lower cycle count in previous years.

Sadly, Apple are quite opaque when it comes to releasing highly technical details that would satisfy us nerds, so it’s difficult to say why.

My 15 Pro Max battery health was at 100% for around 18 months and only recently started dropping, but it’s dropping quite quickly. Now down to 94%.

Think I’ll be getting a 17 this year. If they do a cheaper one with 120 Hz display I’ll be happy with that.

Interesting. What’s your cycle count?

My 15 Pro Max battery started degrading very quickly.

That said, I guess it’s a bit of a lottery anyway in terms of individual cell performance.

  1. I have been using it more than usual recently, mainly more calls.

I’m tempted to buy a red 13 mini and put a fresh battery in to use as my ‘summer’ phone where I simplify things and use it less.

I would then end up using the red iPhone as my main phone - and my 16 Pro Max would end up in the drawer, only because it’s not red!

Such a shame Apple stopped selling the red versions.

After updating to WatchOS 10.5 my series 10 no longer charges

That’s very unusual. No issues here with a series 10 and an SE.

Popped into the Apple Store today after work and they replaced it for me. The Genius couldn’t work out what the issue was.

my iphone 15 pro is now at 87% battery capacity…

chatgpt tells me that in real world, this is actually more like a 20 - 25% degradation (rather than the 13% that’s suggested) - and I can believe it, as I rarely get through the day now.

Not sure whether to get it replaced (£95 from apple) or just wait to upgrade to the 17.

CarPlay Ultra has arrived and supported by Aston and few more to follow it seems. Long time coming, but does look pretty cool. I’d use it.
