My personal view is that I don’t think it’s worth the additional £300. I guess it’s all relative to affordability in some ways but I wouldn’t pay that much of a premium myself.
Having the iPhone X there was no reason to upgrade to any on the iPhone models. (Although the Coral Xr was tempting until I found out it has a 720p screen!)
Although I will be getting the new watch. I think this is what everyone will be doing though and I expect supply to not meet the demand!
Nice request to let those still rocking the S0 who desperately need the upgrade get one first?
I think I’m coming to that decision!
But the blackness and the fact the steel has a better screen (Sapphire Crystal vs Ion-X Glass), is tempting…
Based on yesterdays announcement will you be buying the Series 4 Apple Watch?

Which watch are you going for?
44mm S4 Space Grey Aluminium Case with Black Sport Loop for me
Currently rocking a S0 gold sport.
How have you found the glass on it?
Many scratches or issues?
I guess Space Grey could be the compromise. My Series 0 was Space Grey, and my current Series 2 is Aluminium. I’m temped by the Series 4 (but would be interested in the Cellular option so I’m currently waiting to see what pricing VF will attach to that…) and if I get one will go back to Space Grey.
Completely get the screen temptation though!
Nothing noticable, minor scratches but nothing I wouldn’t expect from 4 years of daily use. Still looks great and can only notice defects when inspecting closely.
My X has the same level of minor scratching on the screen and its only a 10 months old!
This one as I have 42mm Series 0 now so
Going for cellular or just GPS?
I’m going for a Nike one for the fancy reflective loop.
So, this is where it gets confusing.
Space Black is the more expensive “Stainless Steel” model - It looks the best (in my opinion), because the screen and casing blend together, so you can’t really see the edges.
It also has a Sapphire Crystal glass, which is much harder than the ION-X glass on the “sport” models.
But… It’s £749 for the 44mm model!
The alternative, is the Space Grey Aluminium model, which is £429 (as per @anon72173902’s picture).
In person, the two watches do look different (certainly more so than the photos would suggest) - But I don’t think it’s worth the extra £300!
Doesn’t stop me from wanting it though…
For me the Hermes models look so so good. But no way is that price justified. Literally bumped up as you’re paying for 2 designer brands!
Yeah, I’d never get the Hermes model - Not on something which has a shelf life (and the Apple watch has a very short shelf life in watch terms).
If you didn’t HAVE to buy the cellular Space Black Stainless Steel, and could save 100 quid plus by NOT getting cellular, I’d buy it.
It’s annoying Apple only do the Space Black on the cellular models!
No, completely agree on the £300 difference - especially as you don’t need or want the cellular. As you say, a shame they won’t offer the Space Black without the cellular but obviously one of the more premium offers.
Seems like investors didn’t like the price points either. I’m in no doubt it will bounce back, and some, but interesting to see the instant reaction.
I’m not sure without checking, but I don’t think that’s uncommon when they don’t do a big “one more thing”
Yeah my dad doesn’t understand the appeal as to him he buys a watch and expects it to go up in price over the years and see’s it as an investment.
I never wore a watch until my S0 because I only wear / want it because its functional and improves my daily life.
I’ll always buy the cheapest 42 / 44mm model because of this. If i want a fancy strap I can get a nice 3rd party one! And I agree the space black stainless steel is nice, It’s just too expensive, maybe if I was going to go for the cellular option anyway then I would consider it.
For me the times i’m without my phone is so limited that I’m sure I can cope with no internet on my watch when I am (bear in mind that the watch will still connect to known wifi networks on its own). The only use case is going out for a run, which I go to the gym to do (with WiFi). Also EE prices are stupid for data only. Hope vodafones competition brings them down a bit.
I’m not sure why people keep mentioning the price?
It’s the same as last year, but there is a cheaper option and a more expensive option (which is actually cheaper than most people thought it’d be).
Unless I missed an expectation somewhere, it’s exactly where I thought it would be (and most other analysts)?
