App experience as new user - crashes

I signed up a couple of days back and until I got my card and registered it the app behaviour was at best “confusing”.
Having signed up and verified identity any subsequent use of the app caused it to crash on clicking the link on the email to login. The only way around this was to remove the app and download a new one from the App Store. This was all on apple kit. Now I have registered my card it seems to work ok.
The above seems like a bad user experience for new users
