Is this after an update? I didnât notice this until today. It doesnât show any flex transactions for me and Iâm on Android version 5.39.1. Updated today.
PS - I remember seeing it before. Maybe the update changed it? Can someone verify?

Just tried this new look again. Itâs not evolved much in the last few months and feels like a step backward to me.
Is there a way to turn this off or are we stuck with it once we turn it on now?
I think it must be a phased roll out as Im on the latest test flight and my flex transactions arenât showing in the feed yet. Still hoping this extends to third party transactions as well once we can pin accounts!
In what way is it a step backwards, by giving you more visibility of your financial situation?
I think the main issue is not everyone wants a combined overview of their finances. Some people seem to prefer to do analytics/budgeting on a per-account basis and the changes Monzo has made in the last several months (combination of moving away from the old layout and moving away from Summary) probably creates a worse experience for these individuals.
Iâd agree thatâs the main issue.
From a hierarchy perspective, I see personal & joint accounts as very separate things and want to view them as such.
Despite today being the 2nd time Iâve tried to make sense of the new layout (I first tried it back in June & reverted back) I find the new layout unintuitive, fairly confusing, disappointing, and for me, a big step back.
Think iâm going to cancel my premium subscription and look elsewhere for an app experience that understands how & why account hierarchy is important.
Is anyone able to recommend a bank whoâs app does this / more closely follows what Monzo have moved away from?
Agreed.
A lot of people seem to value the separation of personal account+personal pots from joint account+joint pots. I can completely understand that. Working out how much spending money I have, is a very separate amount, for me, than how much spare money we have this month. I suspect that my wife would be less than thrilled if the household bought me a new graphics card, just as I would be somewhat disappointed if my personal account paid for a massive grocery shop that stocked up the freezer.
Iâm sure that there are people who manage both together, far more holistically, though, too.
Does anyone know how integrated business accounts are with personal / joint, as I can imaging that causing some real tax / legal headaches for people.
Personally, what Iâd like to see to resolve this in a way that might make everyone happy would be that the home page was just a set of widgets that you can add multiples of, so someone could add a âpinned account widgetâ with their personal accounts in, then a âmerged activity widgetâ with the same accounts listed, then another âpinned account widgetâ with their joint accounts listed, then another âmerged feed widgetâ with those in it, then a pots widget, etc. etc.
In fact, pots would just be a type of account, so youâd need widgets for activity, accounts shown in the card format, and accounts shown in a list, each of them with the option to choose the included accounts. Then just make everything, including loans, mortgates, etc. into âaccountsâ and that probably covers 99% of things that people can show on their home page, including being able to replicate the current layouts, and most of the things that people seem to be asking for as changes to that.
To be honest, I think youâll struggle. Iâve not seen one that even comes close to being as good as Monzoâs, coupled with the functionality that the account itself offers.
I have a business account too and itâs thankfully not integrated with personal & joint accounts at all.
Itâs had the new design forced upon it in the same way, but because you switch over to a totally separate profile to access it, you only ever see business related things under that profile and so the new design is less of an issue.
In many ways that decision illustrates the main issue here.
Monzo have decided that muddling up business transactions with personal & joint ones is not the right thing to do and so keep them very separate.
Why have they decided to muddle up personal & joint transactions?
Granted, personal & joint are more similar than business transactions, and I donât think it warrants separate profiles for all three (personal, joint, business), but theyâre not similar enough that throwing them together in a confusing mess is going to work with the way I think of and manage personal & joint finances.
Not a bank, but if youâre interested in using a dedicated budgeting/analytics app Emma has a feature called Spaces for organising your accounts in a flexible way: Emma Spaces | Emma App
You can create separate spaces for personal accounts, joint accounts, business accounts, etc. Each space has separate analytics/budgeting. You can also share spaces to other Emma users. So you could for example share the Joint Space with your spouse.
The downside is its not cheap. To get this feature youâd need to pay for their top subscription tier (Emma Ultimate), which costs ÂŁ125/year! However, worth noting that if you choose to share a space, the person you are sharing with can be using a free account.
I think Monzo should consider implementing something like Emma Spaces.
Thanks for the recommendation.
I actually used to be a paying customer of Emma, but found their business practices to be a little scummy for my tastes (constant advertising to even though you were already paying, endless gamification / coinification in-app).
Ended up cancelling because of it.
You can still get to your main/joint account on its own by tapping the card, Iâm not a huge fan of it this way but getting used to it
Yep. I understand whatâs available and how to navigate the new design.
For it to work with my needs, proper hierarchy and separation between personal and joint accounts needs to be a first class citizen.
And that separation needs to extend all the way down to pots.
Just to chime in and say that although I have gotten used to the new layout, I really donât like the fact that personal and joint are lumped in together at all. I treat them as completely separate and really hope that something can be done to allow this within the new framework of the app!
Interested to see what the general consensus is on here:
I preferâŚ
Please add back the swipe down to get back to the home screen gesture. Itâs driving me insane ![]()
This catches me out a lot ![]()
Those screens will be going at some point. Theyâll match the Flex and pot detail screens and then youâll forget all about that gesture.
Interesting you see it that way, as offering more visibility.
I feel it offers less clear information above the fold. For me the transaction feed for accounts is central and the current design is confused and incoherent, as of it were designed by committee without a clear view of the needs of users and driven by wanting space for more widgets/ adverts etc.
What Iâd like to see:
Everything else is secondary to that and there are very good reasons most financial account apps favour this view. A global transaction feed is fine with me as long as it shows enough detail you can also view account feeds but I have no interest in all the incoherent widgets on current home and the huge surface area used to deliver a simple account name + balance.
Truncated feeds is the worst of both worlds, why bother showing a few transactions at all? You can never get a proper view of transactions as you canât scroll and some times of the month it is all future ones etc.
Looking at the pot pages without a transaction feed I sincerely hope this isnât what they think will replace current account in time and am disappointed by the poor use of screen real estate.
There is a huge amount of wasted space with a large coloured square at top and then withdraw/add which arenât often used then 2 (two!) transactions and a savings goal and thatâs it above the fold. Also pots are accounts anyway and I feel it is completely the wrong direction to treat them as something distinct and have a separate UI language for them.
These screens are for conveying information first, that is the primary purpose, not buttons like add money (to take one example of clutter from home) or large icons. Why do I have to live with a large card like item at the top of home taking up 1/3 of the screen? There is a good reason the previous design collapsed cards by default, required a tap for actions and gave more space to the feed.
So in summary I dislike this new home as it doesnât prioritise information vs actions and wastes screen real estate.
Thatâs exactly what there is. Tap your card and youâll see just that account.
They are not and never have been. Monzo have always treated them a level down.
