A/B testing, or iOS/Android parity issue?

A/B testing, or iOS/Android parity issue?
Iâm on Android and donât see it either, so more likely an AB Test. Only Monzo can confirmâŚ
Might be true, but shouldnât be the case imo.
âMove moneyâ is available on both the Joint account & the Personal account for us/me - but if A/B testing is going on, it could well be the user having a Joint account that triggers the âMove moneyâ option in the first place.
The scenario in my head, i want to âmove moneyâ from my savings into my bill pot as a bill is unexpectedly higher than normal. Iâm in the âpaymentsâ tab as I wanted to check when itâs expected.
Currently, I need to come out of the payments tab, find the pot, then click it, then click âmove moneyâ, then select the 2 pots.
Thatâs a lot of unnecessary steps that could be saved by having a âmove moneyâ option in the âPaymentsâ tab which would remove the first 3 steps.
Another matter of preference⌠haha
This is how I do it
Thatâs what I meant to say, but it didnât come across as wellâŚ
Never said anybodyâs feedback is bad. But no, I do not think that people who hang out on Monzo forums on a daily basis can be considered âtypicalâ users. More likely power users who use a significant number of features and products from the bank. The type of person who would more likely benefit from the new home-screen.
Look, I can see the benefit of it. If youâve got a monzo credit card, loan, business account⌠and whatever other products they offer, you can see everything together, at a glance and choose which product you want to drill into. But if you saw the home screen from my perspective youâd see my point. When youâve got a single account the new home-screen seems completely pointless. It adds literally nothing. It just takes things away to a secondary screen. What was wrong with having the main account front-and-centre, and swiping left and right to see other accounts. This new change is feels like change for changeâs sake.
I would be curious to know what percentage of Monzo users have only one bank account and no other products. I would guess its a significant majority and in that case, yes, I think the typical user is more like me than like you.
Discovering that I could tap on the Card on the new homescreen (which I realised after a few days) to get into the old UI makes it a bit easier. Before I found that I was pretty upset about the change. Now its just an inconvenience that I need to do that EVERY time I visit the app.
Unless Iâm just opening the app to check my balance thereâs nothing on the new homescreen I need so I will always tap through to the secondary UI. (and it does feel like two independent user-interfaces, I think âsecondary UIâ should become the official name)
I think thereâs going to be a huge amount of confusion from users with this change. It really is not clear that you can tap through to the secondary UI. And thereâs a lot you canât do unless you do that. Reporting card stolen/ freezing unfreezing etc and load of other things.
What you donât seem to realise is that a lot of people prefer âthat primary UIâ as their main screen. This was already there pretty much on the old version.
Monzo have the data for all of this. How people spend their time, which screens they prefer, which screens cause confusion etc etc. You have no data and just keep clutching at straws because you want to open the app and check your transactions every time.
Why do you always need a full list everytime and not just the most recent ones? Youâre in the minority, and thatâs why change is coming the way it is.
The new design is a vast improvement for many many. Not just people that use a forum.
Another consideration: if you want to only interract in the transaction feed with just one account, donât leave that account feed display (the âold UIâ) in-app when youâre done. Simply go back to the home screen of your phone (and never log out of the app either, if you do, you have to login again. Which will take you to the new home screen to start)
The next time you focus on the Monzo app, itâll âopenâ in the transaction feed right where it left off (in the âold UIâ) when you moved away from it. At least it does this with Android, canât speak for iOS.
Be interested to see how many CASS out following full roll out and whether that data could be compared year on year somehow to see if it was an influencer.
Agreed
This will probably only stick until the app is removed from memory. Then it will fully relaunch.
Depending on Android manufacturer, this can be quite aggressive. Samsung is quite notorious for it.
Well⌠the old UI put a scrollable element inside another scrollable element, so at least monzo are consistent
There appears to be no way back when youâre selected for the ânewâ ui - it has gone from labs - so Iâm seeing if I can keep the app one level down for most uses, and if that proves to be too much annoyance Iâll assess whether to stay at monzo.
The comments about how most users like the change or will just put up with it are interesting.
Firstly, why should people put up with it?
Iâve discussed the changes with 4 friends who also have Monzo accounts and use it in broadly the same way as I do. We all have primary accounts elsewhere and transfer spending money into the account on a monthly basis. Iâm the only one who has created an account to provide feedback here and probably spend more time using the app than the others. Iâm therefore more likely to engage with it. Of these 4, 2 have already stopped using their account as a direct result of the changes. For a casual user, the changes are beyond annoying. From direct experience, people would rather just opt out altogether from something like this than provide feedback. Theyâve simply chosen not to transfer funds to their account as they usually would. Theyâre not âputting up withâ the changes as per previous comments and have voted with their money.
The other 2 Monzo users are still using their accounts but are less than complimentary about the changes. One is running down funds while they consider next steps and the other is giving it a couple of months to see how things go, but isnât confident that theyâll be staying with Monzo. Iâm probably going to end up keeping my savings pot, but day to day Iâm probably going to run down funds and go elsewhere.
You donât have to, you can stop using your account.
Otherwise you have to put up with it. Monzo are not going to backtrack. Feedback on here helps with small things but your friends registering or not makes absolutely zero difference, in the same way as everyone else.
Monzo are not taking the opinions of the few. Theyâll be doing much much wider surveys, just because you havenât been a part of that, doesnât mean it isnât happening.
The vast majority will get used to the design and carry on. Even the people that have registered here just to say they hate it.
âThis Monzo design is a change, I donât like change. So Iâll use a different bank with a completely different designâ
Hi @AmieL ⌠Iâm curious, do you know which banks your friends prefer to Monzo? as in my experience of other bank apps (Halifax,Natwest,Barclays,First Direct,RBS,HSBC,Nationwide,Starling), they all have home screens that show basic account overview and require further taps to see transactions. Some of them even include additional screens before you get to the overview to advertise products or scam warnings.
Sure, some people may prefer the old âhome sceenâ, but even if you donât like the new version so much I honestly canât think of a better experience than the Monzo app.
I was thinking this too. Do any banks open up directly to a full transaction list? It seems far more common to have a list of accounts to tap into.
If you only have one account you still see this.
In fact Monzo allow more details by listing the last few transactions on the first page you see. So youâre getting more with Monzo.
So anyone moving away due to this change, Iâd be curious where they are moving to that has this.
Revolut allows 5 Home Screen transactions to be visible and then you tap see all, to, well, see all.
Chase also gives 4 on the Home Screen activity to then tap and see more.
Unsure of any others, Starling is a swipe up from the bottom of the screen but that UI is overly basic for the most part.
How can you provide a comparison if you opened an account already likely on the new UI, or even grow to love the old before being moved to the new?
In all fairness, those types of customers are least profitable anyway.
