App Evolution (new look Monzo app): Feedback Megathread šŸ“£

Hopefully in the future that’ll be extendable

Tap pots to take you to the current vertical list :clap:t2:

I was thinking about horizontal vs vertical pots.

Apart from the fact that horizontally you can only see two and a bit pots on the screen horizontally and about 10 vertically (depending on the exact screen dimensions of your device)…

We’re so used to seeing columns rather than rows of figures - it just makes more sense to have the balances right justified and vertically stacked. It’s how ledgers are laid out and how we’re used to seeing them. It’s a natural thing to scan up and down a column of figures and do mental arithmetic if you need to. Trying to do that across a row is not at all intuitive or easy to do, made even worse by the limited visibility.

My opinion of course - others may disagree.

I also find horizontal trickier to navigate and parse.
I can swipe up and down with my thumb quite low on the screen to see more info and it’s intuitive.
Another point is that the back gesture on android is a swipe from either side of the screen. When anything wants you to scroll horizontally, there’s always a risk you’ll accidentally activate the back gesture.

+1 from me for vertical lists :+1:

I’m sure you already know but schedule transfers are a little wonky in the latest activity feed for me:

I’ve had to turn Overview off as it’s making the app unusable. Screens stuck, transactions missing, buttons not working. I’m on latest TestFlight on iOS. Anyone else experiencing similar?

The new Home Screen is so frustrating, but like with summary there’s no point me trying to use the older versions if they’re just being phased out. Disappointing.

I had similar. I found that if I clicked on the account element which took me to the old card ui it was fine. If it clicked on the latest activity then It became unusable. Also on iOS

Thanks, that has seemed to do the trick for now.

What do you find frustrating about it? Bear in mind this is an early v1 release. I’m sure it will get better over time with more feedback.

Something I’ve noticed on iOS, a pot feed and deposit amount on the Manage tab don’t update after making a credit/debit for quite sometime after. Refreshing the Home Screen makes no difference. Killing the app also makes no difference. The balance is the only thing that’s correct

I’ve noticed this too it’s really irritating and I’m sure push notifications from these pots don’t always work either.

I decided to turn the new Home Screen off in labs for now because of it.

I’ve been finding that the normal feed (on Android) has been super slow to update (we’re talking 2 to 3 seconds sometimes, sometimes longer). It was worse before app evolution, and it has improved a bit recently, but it’s still not great.

The (non) combined feed seems to be quicker, though.

Oh that’s annoying. I would have turned it off too

When the pot Manage tab wiggles about as it updates is also annoying. Pots need to have a spruce up I reckon.

Performance is a drag alright. Them engineers are gonna need to crank it up a bit to make the app smooth and silky.

Yeah I noticed this too and it was really frustrating.
I have turned it off as I really couldn’t get used to it at all.

I’m quite liking the Overview, it definitely gets better as muscle memory kicks in. The sluggish performance is not good though. An example was I was at the till in a shop on Christmas Eve (very busy) and I realised needed to double check my JA balance before buying (no overdraft but that’s for another thread). The app took a good few seconds to refresh and then clicking the JA card seemed to take about 2-3 hits before showing the feed. When you’ve got a queue of people behind you, it’s not great.

Why are my pot images so blurry?

Totally agree regarding the constant up selling of flex and other accounts - I don’t want them at all ever. And the way Monzo tries to constantly push them is annoying.

Hi,

It’s brilliant to see this is being worked on

In all honesty the current ā€œpull down to go backā€ interface feels a bit clunky to me, as the animation is a bit janky and slow, even though I’m on a relatively recent iPhone.

The new interface looks great! I have however noticed an issue for me, in how I use Monzo, and that’s around pots…

I use pots constantly in Monzo, either for bills, or for ring-fencing funds, so my budget stays on track all month long, so I’m constantly shuttling money in and out of them.

So for me it’s really really important to be able to see all my pots at a glance, just to see that everything is ā€œhealthyā€, and to move funds around if needs be, if that makes sense.

Whilst having the pots ā€œcarouselā€ is very compact, and looks nice, it makes it much more involved to glance at all my pots, and see that everything is ok.

If at all possible, I’d like to see a small ā€œsee allā€ button on the top-right of the pots ā€œwidgetā€, just as there is with the latest activity widget, that would open up a full-screen list of all my pots and balances, so I can scan my eye over them, and see everything is ok please.

One other small thing is that it would be nice to be able to ā€œswipe backā€ from the left edge of the screen - This is a standard iOS interaction, and I often finding myself trying and failing to do this :grimacing::sweat_smile:

The latter isn’t really a ā€œnew Overviewā€ thing, but just a general observation about the app.

I really hope something can be done about the Pots widget, because they really are central to how I use Monzo, so for them to become a ā€œsecond class citizenā€ as such would be quite a step back for me.

Thank you again for such a great app and service
