Annoying Button ("Make Monzo my main account")

A swipe to clear option would be great for things like these and of course it should not be there for people already using Monzo as their primary account.

Ah not just me then!
I am too #fullmonzo so was wondering why the button was appearing. An option to dismiss this would be nice.

I expect Monzo will try to fix this by spotting when you’re already fully switched, rather than adding an option to dismiss the button, to save us any hassle.

I’d hope they would have a universal “dismiss” option for all customers.

Whilst some may benefit from the button, plenty will not, and it would feel like badgering if it was there all the time.

What would be the downsides for the design of the app if they added an option like this for every button like this..?

One of the reasons I dislike the Revolut app is their insistence I try their other products/premium service (plenty of other people feel the same).

Having a constant “switch now” button (just like the golden ticket button), becomes a nuisance after a while.

Give people the option by informing them in the first instance, sure. But then allow them to get rid of it once they make their decision.

That’s what feed items are for. I expect Monzo’s decided not to use a feed item / dismissible button here because users may not want to switch immediately but would benefit from an easy way to do so, at a later date.

Again, when it comes to showing the button to users that have already switched -

:joy: I’m not sure if you intentionally come up with examples of situations that suit your agenda, or if you genuinely feel that way and are 100% down the Monzo rabbit hole.

I get all of what you are saying - But believe it or not, there may also be people who do not want to make Monzo their main account (ever), and want to get rid of the button.

I don’t see an issue with giving customers the option - You can still make a switch even after the button has been dismissed!

Appreciate your POV btw.

It’s showing for me even though I work here and have been full Monzo on my current account since serious internal field testing began just a little over a year ago.

I suspect we’ve just targeted a simple randomly allocated percentage of users for this button but I’ll ask around and see if we can target it a bit better because it does seem a little strange.

It’s started appearing for me following the app update today :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’ve got the same. Switched with the CASS about 2 months ago.

It would be great if we could get rid of it. I have had my salary paid into my account, all direct debits and standing orders and have used it for spending for over a year now. It’s pretty clear I’m full Monzo.

It doesn’t bother me massively, but it has a slightly kick in the teeth feeling that you don’t consider me a “full” customer after all this time.

Same! Switched manually about six months ago, and I also tried clicking through as far as I could to try and get rid of it. Guess it’ll be smarter soon!

Along the same vein, had to set an overall monthly budget even though I didn’t want to to get rid of the “Did you know you can set a budget?” message in summary. I understand not having a dismiss option for switching because it’s on a page you aren’t going to be looking at all the time, and hopefully will be smarter soon and not show if you’ve already switched. But I definitely feel the budget one should be dismissed by clicking on it and messing with the budget, even if you then decide to not set an overall budget. Or at least put it at the bottom of the summary screen so it doesn’t impede your experience.

I’m also seeing a similar “switch your salary” thing in summary but I think that’s because it’s been over a month since my last pay day, so hopefully that’ll disappear when I’m paid, and be resolved when Monzo come up with a solution for variable pay dates.

It is dismissible?

I think they mean that it doesn’t disappear once you set a budget. The app should know you’ve set a budget and dismiss itself.

Hi @Dan_R

Thanks for your feedback on this, we’ll pass it along.

I’ve gone ahead and edited the title of this topic (to add in the name of the button). That’s just so other folks with the same feeling can post in here too. Hope that’s cool!

Not for me! I’m on Android 7.1.1, Moto G5s Plus.

It just disappears when I set a budget, and returns if I unset one.

No worries mate

There is no x to dismiss on Android, it uses Google design, so simply swipe the card away

Thanks! Someone told me last night in the Summary thread.

Is there anywhere else in the app where you can swipe to dismiss? I think that was what threw me. Actually can’t think of a time when I’ve swiped for anything in Monzo before! I’d be willing to bet I’m not the only one who didn’t spot this.
