Amazon refusing to refund/replace an item stolen by a delivery driver

Have you escalated at Amazon?

Time for a charback! But get the crime reference first.

I cannot get a crime reference number. I’m not a victim of a crime.

I think we have exhausted advice then really. Either you push for a crime reference number (or report it online and get one), give Amazon the reference you were given and just tell them that is the crime reference number, or you initiate chargeback.

At this point the thread is just becoming circular in regards to a crime reference. Contact your bank, I think you said Monzo earlier on and file a chargeback. You’ll have to explain everything to them, let them follow the process and see what happens.

I have called 101 a few times, everybody I have spoken to has said the same thing - I’m not a victim.

I reported it online last night, I wasn’t given an incident number, nor a crime number, I wasn’t even sent an email nor text to say my report has been submitted.

I have given Amazon the incident number, they cannot verify anything with it

I ended up emailing complaints@amazon.co.uk, managingdirector@amazon.co.uk, and even a bunch of random emails that I thought may be in use, hahaha. Trying to source contact information for those that work for Amazon is insane, they haven’t left footprints any where! I even DM’d Jeff Bezos on Instagram - I’m desperate :joy:

I’ve contacted the police, Resolver, though they say Amazon refuse to work with them, I’ve emailed Which? twice, contacted Citizen’s Advice who were helpful, I’m trying to source the correct Alternative Resource Resolution Scheme, though it’s proving difficult, I’ve been in contact with BBC Watchdog and a producer is going to wave my story in front of his bosses, and I’m considering going to my local papers. I cringe every time I think of emailing them, but I need Amazon to take me seriously. I should probably start practicing my best ā€˜compo face’ in the mirror.

Sounds like we just have to wait and see how it pans out for you! Hope it all works out.

Fortunately Monzo disputed it for me, I was shocked considering I wasn’t able to provide as much evidence as I usually would when I make a chargeback claim, there was no option to start a chat in the app!

I included a WeTransfer link in the emails I sent with pictures I thought to be relevant for this. Just received an email that the link has been downloaded.

I know the email has been read… I just don’t know who by.

That’s for Monzo to decide when the dude puts in the ticket to customer support.

And alleged crimes have to be investigated taking up resources as well as go into the forces stats as not investigated, so (in my 1st and 2nd person experience ) they try avoid giving a crime ref and try incident ref or submitting as an intelligence report instead.

This case is an example, someone is alleging or reporting a theft and they are refusing to log it as a crime
which you say they definitely can and that’s despite calling multiple time so it’s not just a single employee, making a civilian call handler cps, judge and jury, what sort of organisation are they running where someone with no law training can decide if a crime has been committed.

Classic one is somehow calling criminal damage a civil dispute to avoid logging or investigating.

These decisions will come from higher up but the police need to be given the resources instead of having to cut corners everywhere.

It really isn’t anything to do with civilian staff being judge and jury; that’s frankly a dramatic statement to make and has no bearing on the actual truth of the matter. If you’re unhappy with how your call has been handled, pop a call over to 101 and make a complaint which will be looked into.

Not least that a good chunk of folk answering your calls are actually police officers and not civilian staff.

At no point are emergency operators pushed to not issue crime reference numbers or try to fudge crime figures. That would be outlandish and would face severe pushback internally I can assure you.

An operator will have legal definitions in front of them and receive basic training in laws surrounding common crimes that is not dissimilar to that of a police officer training; and believe me, theft/robbery/assault are so common place that most will reel off legal definitions within a few shifts.

I’m sorry if you’ve had bad experiences but your accusations of what is happening doesn’t bear out with factual evidence.

As for the OP, if Notts Police have a particular way of recording (or not recording) these incidents then there are probably grounds to just get that clarity from them to know where you stand. As above though, it’s almost certainly going to be faster for you personally to go through Amazon and/or chargeback with Monzo sadly. This is unfortunately a common experience that I can only hope Amazon are looking to try and reduce (and may well be!)

Received an email from a second police officer earlier, stating the same thing.

I’m hoping BBC Watchdog and my local paper are interested in my story. I received an automated reply when I emailed John Boumphrey that I’d receive a response within two business days so hoping for the best. I’ve also just sent a letter to headquarters in London with a signed for stamp.

I hate that this has happened, I keep seeing so many similar stories. I have no faith in Amazon now, I’ll have to finish watching Handmaid’s Tale on C4 instead of Prime Video.

I HAVE HAD A BREAKTHROUGH!! Whilst typing this response (10 minutes ago) I received an incoming call from a number from the States. Usually I would not answer. An executive director from America was calling me on behalf of Andrew Milliken, THE VICE PRESIDENT. She was very apologetic and informative. Told me they were grateful for my email and they appreciated the images, screenshots and videos on WeTransfer.

She said somebody would get back to me within a few days and this case will definitely be looked into, and the courier will definitely be investigated.

I am so glad I decided to randomly email a bunch of email addresses that I thought were in use, I am hoping it has heavily worked in my favour.

Fingers crossed it works out for you :+1:t2:

Factual evidence shows that a record number of forces are in special measures including ones for not recording 1 in 4 violent crimes that were reported to them, that’s not just any crimes but violent crimes, as found by HMICFRS not me, so there’s a long way to go before the public can believe what they are being told by the police.

I’m not disputing that. I’m disputing your claim that staff are being encouraged to suppress crime recording. That just isn’t being done, though I suspect there’s nothing that can be done or said on here to change your mind so it’s pretty pointless.

Anyway this is rearing off topic, looking forward to seeing the outcome the OP gets from their endeavours.

I’m not anti the police I want to see them improve and make the country safer, I was at one point going to work for them in my professional capacity because I thought I could help it improve.

I appreciate you replying so I can hear your perspective, I didn’t think straight out plain English memos to suppress recording were being sent out.

Nottingham is crime central, and I believe our police force is incredible with how they handle a lot of crimes, incidents and complaints.

I had to contact them a few months back and they were extremely helpful. I like to believe our police force has a healthy relationship with communities throughout Nottingham.

It’s different for all cities. Though, if you do want some insight, there’s a show called Police Interceptors on channel 5 that paints a perfect picture of our city.
