Twenty minutes on the chat and the closure is now pending.
Based on my experience it’ll still be there at Christmas.
What about after Christmas though?
I already have an account but the 2% DD cashback and access to the 7.5% regular saver means that the £5 would soon pay for itself. In any case it’s certainly an interesting choice to charge a one-off fee though, never seen that on a bank account before.
If you already have an account it shouldn’t apply.
Actually seen a bit more info on this one and it’s not as clear cut as it seems.
Looks like they are doing some a/b testing on different sign up offers.
If you sign up through the website, you get the £5 charge.
Some adverts on FB offer 3% cashback rather than the 2%
Signing up via the app apparantly gives you the standard 2% offer and no sign up fee
Looks like there is yet ANOTHER Zopa offering out there in the wild!
2% cashback on Direct Debits
2% interest on account balance
1% cashback on spending
Interestingly, this offer doesn’t give access to the 7.5% savings rate.
Again, new customers only lol
But like…
WHY.
This reminded me to close my Zopa bank/account and apparently you can’t close your account if you’ve had a quote in 30 days… but I literally cannot have had a quote:
Weirdly I’ve never been eligible and I’ve never checked. I don’t need a loan:
They run frequent, automated soft checks on your eligibility so it’s possible it’s one of those that has declined. Does seem a bit odd to not let you close the account because of it though.
More than odd yes, I don’t mind them running checks if they want but I shouldn’t be penalised if I’m not requesting them.
New card design incoming… no launch date for it yet though
That’s bizarre you can’t close your account
Apparently it’s a Credit Karma soft search. Which presumably happens whenever I log in and it refreshes any offers I might have.
Seems really frustrating I can’t log into an app that might throw a soft search out without my knowledge for 30 days.
They closed my account and I had a look at my score within a month of looking. Didn’t look at loans but it always comes up that I’m eligible for stuff.
I haven’t looked at loans specifically, so I don’t know why they would have a search.
Like I said, they seem to do it whether you look at loans or not - I have loads of Zopa soft searches when I check through Clearscore, roughly one a month. I think it might be controlled through the “Borrowing Power” option under the Apply tab - there’s an option to unsubscribe in there.
I’ve turned off the Borrowing Power update as the notifications were annoying me. I do have a Zopa loan though.
Can’t wait to get my Biscuit card.
