Zing Chat!

It’s only been around for 10 months but it’s still very barebones for what it could be.

I think they are still available only to UK residents?

Free debit card top ups is a big plus for me (although only to the GBP wallet). Revolut charges 2.2% for US/USD card top ups and Wise also charges for mostly everything.

Shame Curve now restricts adding non-EEA cards. Used to be very handy.

I’m sort of on the fence with this given HSBC essentially operate it as public version of their Global Money account. Probably a good part as to why they wrote off Monese too.

The free £500/month exchange is the only thing I use It for. Even that’s only useful for EUR though as that and GBP are the only currencies you can transfer out free.

I started signing up for Zing on my iPhone 15P, was out of the house at the time when I got to the ID check. But you cannot move past it by logging in from another device and trying to continue

So essentially I got blacklisted before I even signed up

Message says

“Please continue from the device this account was created on to continue”

Why don’t you carry on with the iPhone?

I find Zing exchange rate slightly better than Revolut and Wise (between EUR GBP and USD, have not tried others), inside the £500 free exchange allowance. Not sure how it compares above the allowance or on paid tier. I have free Revolut standard so a (free) Zing card is a good supplementary backup for extra free ATM and extra free exchange allowance (but the latter less useful as I can also use Chase UK DC which gives decent exchange once the 1% cashback is taken into account - I know cashback is capped of course)

I agree, FX rate is usually better on Zing in my testing as well.

While the difference is not that big, I’d rather have a free coffee somewhere

Funny even with the £1.00 fee the rate would still be better

Finally, a reason to get Zing?

MSE:

newbies can get a £30 welcome bonus when signing up via our link and spending £5+ using the physical or virtual card before 21 November.

Oh for sure. I’ve got three confirmed referrals already. Get in quick before the money runs out.

Refer a friend up to 20 times - 30 quid a pop.

I was just coming to post this! Only noticed in my MSE email when I was looking for something else.

Account created. £10 added. £10 Apple Gift Card purchased with ApplePay. Easy!

Now to wait for the £30 and then I can spend that in the same way.

Nearly a month later I’m still waiting so it’s not quick! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve just done this too. Nice card for the collection and a £5 Amazon gift card top up is easy enough.

I’ve given a few people my link and it says “You have invites in progress”

I’m guessing there’s no way of knowing at what stage those people are? I’m not going to chase my friends to make them sign up but does anyone know what the “progress” part means?

Maybe they clicked and couldn’t be arsed and that’s tracking as in progress? I know I’ve definitely got one completed but that was only last night, so that wasn’t included in the ones in progress when I checked yesterday.

My brother had spent his £5+ after being referred but it still showed on mine as ‘in progress’. He logged in next to me and there was some kind of 3 stage account set-up thing / pop-up banner which he clicked to confirm (maybe funding or spending?), and now I have this:

Helpful tip, thank you!

Yep, I’ve got three ‘Successful referrals’. Hopefully they’ll start hitting next week.

I also have the very vague ‘invites in progress’. I’m guessing someone has signed up but not spent. Maybe they’re waiting for the physical card to arrive.

But, more than likely, they just can’t be bothered. It’s incredible how many people DON’T want free money.

Got two of my three Zing payments today for 30 quid each. Strangely, the tracking page shows as ‘one paid, two on the way’.

But it’s safely in my pocket now so I shall worry not.

Was that bang on the 30 days out of interest?

A few days shy. I think I joined on the 8th and got my first referral on the 11th or 12th of October.
