Working for free against my will. Thanks Monzo

Recently I referred two people correctly and completely which I verified when I got the notification in my “referals section” of the app that my referals had finished joining and the number of my complete referrals went from 1 to 3.

I have not been given my $20 reward, so I contacted chat support. They told me that my referals were refered correctly and that they completed signing up properly to qualify for the bonus but that I will not be given my bonus. When I asked why, the reason I was given was that some customers are not eligible for the referral reward.

If the people I referred were eligible to join and open an account and I am being advertised to about how I will receive $20 for properly referring new business, how is it okay to just not pay me what is promised after I put in the time and effort to convince customers that would not have joined otherwise.

That is like telling someone they will be paid for a job and then refusing to pay after they complete the job correctly and fully.

This is a pretty shady business practice for a company that is trying to be portrayed as legitimate.

Maybe if they didn’t keep the customers I referred, knowing that eventually they’ll be making money from their business it wouldn’t be so bad.

Being tricked into putting forth time and effort to help a company make money because the company promised money for the help and then not being paid is incredibly frustrating and insulting.

Then having to deal with chat only support that takes hours to respond at times is only adding insult to injury.

Additionally, I don’t understand why it’s okay to not have to give a reason for not honoring the work I submitted. An explanation might have made it understandable. Being told that I did the work correctly and my referals did their part as well , but I will not be paid because of a reason that does not need to be disclosed to me according Monzo is a situation that I wish I could make every Monzo customer aware that they are willing to subject some of their customers to. I know I would not have done as much business with Monzo if I knew that these were the types of business practices they use.

Even if I wasn’t ever going to refer someone, this situation makes it apparent that dishonesty is something that Monzo uses to trick their members into helping them increase their client base, so what’s to stop them from not being dishonest about where people’s money is or how it’s being used.

I think I’m still a little angry about the whole thing because i feel I am rambling now.

If anyone knows how I can get Monzo to honor my referals like they advertised to me would happen, I would love to hear your suggestions please. I know if I don’t get my money for the referrals or at least a suitable explanation as to why not, my trust level for this company will be too eroded for me to continue on as a customer. Also, I will have to make sure my referals and anyone else I talk to about financial management apps in the future knows about how Monzo can’t be trusted.

Okay. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments. I hope someone will have some input for me that will help.

Have a great day.
