Actually as we all know Apple Pay won’t be here till 2020 so I think Monzo should invest their time and money in cheques, bring back the cheque book I say.
Much more faster and secure then this Apple Pay thing that everyone else has.

Imagine a lovely hot coral cheque book… You’d need a Monzo sharpie to be able to fill it in…
Is Apple Pay where you pay for everything using apples? If so, I already do that. I must be winning in life!
I was in a situation today where is left my wallet at home. Luckily I had Apple Pay so Amex won all my transactions for the day. #SorryMonzo
Also, can someone (anyone) tell me how we managed before Apple Pay? It’s been in the UK for less than four years! How did we get by before?!
Answers on a postcard, please.
I added Monzo card to Tesco Pay+ so I able to pay at Tesco if no card with me
Payment processor is not ready for Apple Pay or what?
How did you get Apple Pay cash over here?
Annecdotally, I always find sliced bread goes off quicker than non-sliced.
Sliced is normally made using the Chorleywood Baking Process and that sort of bread tends to go off quicker than traditionally baked bread
So I was in Tesco the other day, spent over £30, ‘contactless logo’ appeared, bring up my Apple Pay card, showed my face to my phone, and then stuck it on the reader and… it didn’t work.
The till operator then told me ‘it’s not set up yet for transactions over £30’
Surprising, because a lot of places (Morrison’s, Waitrose) do accept £30+ now. And also surprising because if that’s the case why does the logo show up on the card reader!? My guess is because their clubcard is ‘contactless’… but it’s makes it all bloody confusing!
I had this exact thing in a Tesco petrol station. The women did the usual “It won’t work for over £30” to which I replied that with phones it does work because you authenticate etc. etc. She told me to give it a go and it failed. The women had a smirk on her face and I felt like a total plonker
I have used Apple Pay for large transactions in loads of retailers, over £100 in a lot of cases, with cashiers being really surprised. I don’t know why Tesco artificially limit it?!
So that they can nudge
you towards their proprietary app? I can’t think of any other reason really…
Oh, I know someone who is going to get very upset with that statement
Edit:
and the following posts if you want to get deep into the rabbit hole
Contactless with your card and Apple Pay/Android Pay are actually different in the way they work in the background. Don’t ask how
I can confirm Tesco have enforced a limit of £30 for all forms of contactless payments, phone, watch, card, etc, in both stores and petrol stations.
Morrisons on the other hand recently added little infocards around card terminals that advertise no limit for Android Pay and Apple Pay, but £30 limit for contactless cards.
Not all contactless payments. As said previously, their Tesco Pay+ app is contactless and has a much higher limit. They want you to use that so that they can more closely track you, presumably.
Sorry, I meant the more widespread methods rather than store-specific ones. And yes, it’s almost definitely to track you more.
