What's the Last Bit of Tech You Bought?

Cable management on a standing / height adjustable desk would make me queasy

Partly why I’ve still never bought one after a decade of looking at them.

I love mine! The Pen type cap is so nice!

Also nice that you edit the settings here - iFixit

Checkout the secret labs desk then, cable tidy heaven

My work PC is massive and weighs a ton so It would have to stay on the floor (hardwood) and some of my cables are only just long enough as it is. :grimacing:

I love their desks, and would have one to go with my chair, however they’re not big enough :-1:

I have a short length of wood glued to the bottom of the desk and a 6-gang strip attached to it using the hooks that are often on the back of adapters.

This then is free to handle all the cable management:

The only cable I have running to the ground is the power cable going to the 6-gang.

Perhaps add a USB-C with DP alt mode port to the PC, then can do single cable to a monitor and peripherals hub on the desk.

which did you buy? don’t think you ever linked them.

Crikey, I’ve seen some that come with a desktop for less over the years.

Fair enough, I’d only really need one that can lift my monitor and accessories, only heavy thing I have is my PC which is too big to go on a desk anyway lol.

Amazon “Used - Good” because I tried to save £33 over new…

Should’ve just bought new

CPU socket looks good though

Would love to know what the previous owner did to that board

What is Amazon’s definition of “Good”. I wouldn’t call that “Good” condition, the PCB is bent (or is that just the photo?). Can you return?

Yes, I can return it thankfully, I can’t actually test it until My CPU and RAM show up on Tuesday

I wish it was just a photo, but it’s bent

Even if your testing checks out, a bend in the PCB could cause issues later. Once the structural integrity is compromised (:vulcan_salute:), it’s going to have a higher chance of failure later.

Do keep us up to date though. At least you bought from Amazon and not AliExpress, I dare say returns are a little easier with Amazon.

Honestly, I think you’re right and there’s probably not much point in waiting for my CPU to show up to test it, I’ll package it back up and return it and then just buy a new one, Which is what I should’ve done it in the first place

I think that’s for the best. If some of the routes are damaged in the bent areas, it’s even plausible that the board could end up shorting your CPU and other components, causing damage.

For the sake of £33, it could end up costing you a lot more.

Shocking how some people treat their electronics though. Clearly don’t care.

My needs were more or less the same. Two monitors, and any other crap that’s accumulated on the desk.

I went for the EF-1. It’s more than good enough at a much more reasonable price point.

I’ve just replaced Poppy’s PitPat with a tractive tracker.

Her PitPat has died for the second time in a year, and she lost one so under their policy they won’t replace it (even tho it seems to be a fairly common problem as it’s happened twice to me, and once to my Dad - we bought them at the same time).

My brother has been recommending a Tractive one for ages. The purchase price was a fair bit cheaper than the PitPat and as it doesn’t charge wirelessly I’m hoping it’s more reliable. The tracking is always on too, whereas the PitPat requires you to wait up to 5 minutes.

I’ve actually had a bit of a tech purchasing month because I’ve ordered a new 34” Ultrawide screen monitor for my desk and I’ve just ordered a new Apple Pencil after losing my last one, but I don’t know if that counts :joy:
