What password manager does everyone use?

Bitwarden. Free, or $10/year for advanced features

Been using it for over a year now and it’s just as good as LastPass.

I’m luckily still paying £7.92 per year for LastPass until 2025 (I paid for ten 1 year licences, running consecutively, back in 2015).

I have been looking to move away when I get to that date due to its escalating costs. I have tried 1Password but didn’t have the same feel as LastPass. I have really only liked Dropbox Passwords as an alternative. Unfortunately, I don’t pay for either after trialing them. I may look for BitWarden soon as the free alternative.

I found 1Password over complicated tbf when trying to log in on my iPhone. Not sure why it needs to be so complicated.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good 2FA app?

What do you find complicated about it?

For 2FA I mainly use Authy

In news, $6.8B is a mighty high valuation for a password manager!

Needing a URL and setup code for every time you want to log in on iOS on a new device? Overkill.

I’ve only ever needed the master password and my account key on a new iPhone.

1Password is definitely the best of all the password managers I’ve tried.

But can you access the website without it so you can log in if you lose your phone to get a new one because I use my password manager to log into Google where I have sorted the emergency file on Google Drive

I can confirm you need your secret key on everything. If you dont have that printed out in your wallet you cant log in on any device. So 1password doesnt appear to be a good idea at all

only the first time you log in on a new device- that’s what makes it safe!

Would you prefer if you only needed email and password to login to a new device?

Yes. Otherwise its useless?
Too easy to get locked out and lose everything

I mean I’ve been using it for four years now, so I don’t think ‘useless’ is a fair description.

If you lose one thing, you would just log on to another thing that had the secret key. If you somehow lost everything at the same time then you’d need to refer to the piece of paper they tell you to print out and keep safe.

Bitwarden for me too.

I used lastpass for years and years prior and it’s a great alternative. I even pay for premium/pro or whatever it is :+1:

You should only need to enter it once when you set up a new device.

The rationale for using secret keys is explained here About your Secret Key | 1Password

There’s no secret to 1Password. It’s a death trap to lose hundreds of passwords. So it’s a pass from me.

With respect, that’s complete nonsense!

Not really. If you don’t have the secure key your only choice is to accept deleting your account. Behave yourself.

There are plenty of scenarios where this can go wrong.

As should be the case. There are plenty of secure ways to make sure you don’t get to this point.
