What films do you recommend?

Watched it on Friday. It’s OK - entertaining. Great visuals but a predictable story.
The ‘villain’ is the least villainous villain I’ve seen in a film for a while though. That character should have been so much bigger/powerful.

Going to the cinema to see Furiosa in a bit - hope it’s good!

I saw a Verge article that it had come to Netflix, but when I launched the app, it was nowhere to be seen so I had to search to find it.

Awesome movie.

Shocked, but not wholly surprised. For whatever reason, the streaming giants don’t really value what they have. As the article says, a new Miike should be an event.

That said, I can’t actually watch it myself as I’m currently Netflix-less. Might have to (re-)watch my DVD of Ichi the Killer instead.

They’re at it again. This time with Richard Linklater. Hit Man is out, but can anyone see it on their Netflix home page or do you have to search for it?

I think there’s something of a two-part argument here:

  • Being entirely algorithm-based is never going to give big movies the promotion they deserve

  • No-one has been able to put their hand up yet to say “the algorithm has shown me this”

I know anecdote != data and all that, but when you see people saying they’d love this or that but Netflix isn’t letting them know about it, you have to question if they’ve got the algorithm right.

(Also, the effect of this is Netflix get themselves in a stupid spiral of spending money making stuff, releasing it to no fanfare, and then being all surprised Pikachu when no-one watches and they sadly cancel further plans)

I watched Wish the other weekend.

The star when it makes a dress thing, prances around and then the goat says “finally I feel seen” :joy::skull:

Well, it’s a different studio and Pixar are one of the only Disney studios I still think are fairly consistent. I enjoyed inside out, looking forward to catching 2!

I have Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to see tonight. Can’t wait!

Agree, watched it but didn’t enjoy it much.

Alien Romulus is great though. Easily the best film in the franchise after Alien and Aliens. Love how well they recreated the atmosphere and visuals of the original, and the characters and story were easy to get into.

The Infiltrators on Apple TV is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. Absolutely dreadful. Matt Daaaaaamon & Casey Affleck shouldn’t be in a film this bad.

The Insigators.

I don’t know that it’s the worst film I’ve seen, but it’s up there.

It was shite tbf.

Beetlejuice was ok, had some funny bits and many random ridiculous bits, and some bits I didn’t quite understand.

Maybe need to watch the first one again to get it.

That’s the one. Didn’t deserve me getting the name right.

Went to see Despicable Me 4 with my kids and they had a trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice before the film started.

I mentioned this after and they discovered an algorithm had matched on comedy but hadn’t taken into account the +horror tag. No human had checked, the cinema gets a bundle to press play on so not necessarily their fault.

The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer was a U certified I was told but you could hear the WTFs from parents and kids going why have they got shrunken heads.

Free tickets to another film and a big apology and they removed it from future showings.

Have taken my lot three times to see it over the summer and had a brilliant kip each time whilst they sat quietly and engrossed!

Can’t beat a bit of old jealousy on a Monday.

Age appropriation and a seat that you can sit in but not lay down in are two different things.

The level of ridiculous was the same as the OG.

Can’t really see it being gore, other than someone being sew together with a stapler :joy:
