I use TunnelBear as well…
For me probably OneDrive app
That’s the most annoying thing about google. Every time they develop anything they’ll region lock it to the US for years.
I read a lot- I prefer iBooks to the Kindle app.
SwiftKey- amazing keyboard app. I type so much quicker on it. When I had a Sony phone the predictions were even worse than the iPhone autocorrect, so this saved my life. There is better functionality and language support on Android- I’ve been asking them to bring Mandarin and Japanese to the iPhone for years but no luck yet you swipe between languages on the space bar really quickly. They now have a clipboard function built in which I love.
Clips. I can copy text and choose from different saving options (text, text & URL, URL only, etc.) really quickly.
Was so useful during my month-long travels. It saved place names which I’d never remember in a foreign language. I love tracking every aspect of my day. I use their sister app Sleep Cycle too.
Cutest wallet tracker
And of course Instagram, Twitter, VSCO Cam, Snapseed, Google Keep
GPM does Podcasts in the US!
For the briefest moment I had it on my phone in the UK (without going through VPN!) It lasted ~2 hours and then it was gone I just assumed Google had enabled it so I didn’t think to shout about it online
Hopefully it comes over the pond one day… It would be nice to have everything tied into a neat bundle
I travel to the US quite a lot, and it’s really interesting (and irritating) that not all of their region locks work the same way! For example, I bought a US SIM years ago and registered it with Google Voice. I then piped Voice into Hangouts and it’s worked ever since! So I have a US number that just calls me on Hangouts. Similarly, when GPM first launched it was US only and once registered, worked fine in the UK.
Sadly I’ve not been able to get YouTube Red activated yet, and I wish Podcasts would just show up when on an VPN and then stay, but that doesn’t seem to be the case… oh well
The lack of Youtube Red annoys me… Especially as at one point we had YouTube video integration in GPM and also the ability to play some YouTube music videos in the background and then one day all that ability just disappeared??
For me it’s CF. Lumen. On a rooted device it can be used to change the display colour gamut directly which allows it to work cross-system with no-delay, no battery impact and no weird colour issues. Has seriously improved my sleep along with Sleep as Android
Yep! I had YouTube ‘Red’ when GPM and YT were tied together in the £9.99/month subscription. I loved YouTube videos in the background, not just music but tech reviews from the likes of Linus, Marques, Dave2D etc. As well as gamers where them talking can be more interesting than gameplay (i.e. hat films)
But alas, that’s gone and I can’t see it coming back any time soon but I’ll try to keep optimistic
it’d be super handy to have again!
Didn’t grasp the question, eh, @anon72173902
If it’s any consolation, I would not be able to pick just one either!
It is interesting to see the wide variety of apps that people use on this thread, some of which I have never heard of.
Might even test run a few
Fog of world on iOS is one hell of an addiction for me, it’s a lot of fun when traveling
Can’t survive without my tunes in the morning, so it has to be Spotify. However, I also can’t survive a day without chatting with my sister, so Whatsapp too… In the past I would also have said Citymapper and Dark Sky, but Google Assistant has kind of replaced those for me now.
1Password makes it very difficult to know it can even handle 2FA codes, it calls them something that no one else refers to (1 Time Passwords I think?) and you have to tap around to figure out how to add them to a login. But I’m very glad they have it. It’s a service I don’t mind paying a monthly fee for, I use the app several times a day.
Podcasts show when i use VPN, from GPM you just need to go to settings and hit refresh account
I know, but if you go off the VPN they don’t stay when the app refreshes.
I don’t pay the monthly sub for 1password (I bought it back in the day) but it is the first app I install on a new device.
I’m disappointed they are gradually forcing people to move to the subscription model, and the password management built in to the iphone is getting better all the time so I may move to that or to bitwarden.
I love oasis or it repeatedly but syncing properly is great. And having a web interface and now a proper chrome extension for my work PC where I can’t install apps is perfection and worth the cost.
It’s the web interface and proprietary cloud that scare me - such a juicy target - providing secure cloud storage is such a different task to writing a crypto database. At least the hackers will target your files first and if they find a vulnerability, maybe i can get my vaults off the other cloud providers in time
