I do remember sitting in front of a Brexit group meeting in a Wetherspoons in Brighton, deciding to have an equally caracatured loud & fake discussion of how reversing the referendum wasn’t sufficient and we should be pushing for euro membership was of significant amusement
Ours is actually a converted supermarket, and it’s quite traditional inside now.
Although as good a job as they have made of the inside, our favourite places are the roof terrace and the patio.
(Probably something to do with us both being smokers lol)
I’m really hungry now
It’s so beautiful
Not bad for an old supermarket

I like a few things about spoons.
Cheap booze
Good selection
Alright choice of food
Good employer (my sister trained and worked for them as a manager for ten years before emagrating to New Zealand)
They buy up unique and culturally important buildings preserving them.
However in recent years
Beer quality is a bit naff
I’ve found their places really vary in quality
Pro-brexit stance of managent
Local spoons posted anti-vaccination and anti covid posters (not sure this was endorsed by management or not)
And since then, I’ve boycotted them. I’ve been to a spoons once in the last 2 years and I’d much rather support small local independent pubs and bars now which is really enjoying a resurgence and pay a bit more for a pint for what I feel, is a much better experience.
Fingers crossed that most, if not all of them survive this ![]()
Had my very first date in a spoons
I love their cheap cocktails
Can you open it or are the pages stuck together in true Wetherspoons carpet style?
In Wells Somerset the opening of a Wetherspoon pub, nice though it is, promptly led to the closure of half the pubs in the town.
He’s still being a bellend to this day.
The one in Harrogate is quite fancy. I think it used to be a Victorian building for plants and things. Problem is, even if they’re fancy, they’re still Tim Martin’s.
Oh the man makes my blood boil; don’t get me wrong.
He just apparently knows how to run a pub chain, for some reason.
I’ve been in a few of Wetherspoon’s pubs and the emphasis on excellent, friendly customer service - often at busy times - is worthy. Really impressed with their stance on repurposing elegant buildings.
Food is consistent in quality and always good value for money.
Personality aside, they’re a good addition to the high street.
Sorry - I should have added “in my experience…”
You cant get a drink from spoons and not get onion rings
The only one I’ve ever frequented is the one in Birmingham Airport. I used to fly back and forth to the US and sometimes other countries between 5-10 times a year, and often I’d fly at times when there wasn’t much else open at the airport.
Too many nice independent pubs in my area to justify going to a spoons. The Village in Moseley, The Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath and The Prince Of Wales in Moseley are all up there amongst the best pubs in the whole of Birmingham and all walking distance from me.
Love Spoons, Hate Tim
Fighting Cocks is also alright Moseley wise.
Elizabeth of York better for the bank balance though
