We're working on a new look for the Monzo app

How did you force the dark mode like that? I’ve got Android 10 on my Pixel XL, is there an option to force it?

You’ll have to enable developer options first;

  1. Go to the Settings app of your device via the notification shade or app drawer.
  2. Scroll down and tap on ‘About phone.’
  3. Find an entry labeled ‘Build number.’ Keep on tapping on that entry until you see a prompt that says ‘You are now a developer!’. You may be prompted to enter your device’s unlock code (PIN/Pattern/Password) at this point.
  4. Voila! You are now a developer

Then select (enable) ‘Override force-dark’ in Developer Options (System/Advanced/Developer Options/Override force-dark)

  • but this may also force other ‘non-dark-mode-apps’ to display in dark-mode which doesn’t seem ‘right’. It may also flip actual dark mode enabled apps into light-mode which isn’t great.

Life on the edge…

I get it. I finally get it. :tada:

After downloading and installing iOS 13 I get the direction of the new app layout. :raised_hands:

After a few weeks of using the new layout, I found it too detached from the rest of my phone’s experience and quite difficult to enjoy using. But now that I’ve updated to iOS 13, it fits perfectly with the new card style and gesture focused interactions of the entire operating system, making the new Monzo app layout feel right at home.

I now see that Monzo’s design team have done their research and got a head start on what will be the new mobile interaction standards, at least in the Apple eco system.

Bravo!

Joint accounts pot ordering bug seems to have been squashed for me (where the main account was showing in between pots) :+1:

Anything new?

I’m curious when the grey section headers / table view background will get changed to white? Now with the new layout it looks odd to have grey in there. On the account time line are the sections changed to white and if I’m correct these pot and creditcard taps are white on android.

And found a bug or maybe new feature that is coming. When pressing the pay from this pot button I get to see my subscriptions, not only direct debits. But when pressing one of them nothing happens. I just go to the detail page of the subscription.

I’m on iOS 13 monzo 3.0.0 no dark mode yet btw :slightly_frowning_face:

It’s still taking a decade for the feed to update on 3.0 :upside_down_face:

Yeap agreed, it doesn’t look great.

I’ve not noticed anything at all so far. So guessing it’s behind a feature flag. @bruno :man_shrugging:t2:

Same here…the app looks exactly the same.

Only difference I can see is standing orders are now showing under the bill pot list on iOS so that’s fixed, and also we now have the new pot images.

The new nav is looking great at the moment, but it feels as if a few of the finishing touches have been forgotten about.

For example, the profile/settings screens which have received a lot of feedback and were mentioned here some weeks ago as being worked on:

Along with some other smaller details that have been mentioned a few times in the thread:

  • No back button on the accounts screen
  • Grey backgrounds on the pot drawers
  • Some problems with the rounded corners on the transaction drawer
  • Removing the option for the full height transaction drawer

Are these finishing touches still going to be applied before the new nav is fully launched?

I’m pretty sure this work is separate from the existing navigation stuff (correct me if I am wrong @bruno) and wasn’t promised to be released in v3.0? In the same way that the summary screen will be getting some love at some point as well.

New nav has now launched. Continue the chat here: The Monzo app is changing: we've had a makeover!

Congrats to @bruno and team for such great communication here!
