We're working on a new look for the Monzo app

They’ve used orange for any lending-related stuff for a while.

I feel that this is looks a little hideous under the new look with just one orange logo in the middle of a sea of white

Not sure if this is new layout related but due to a purchase of a new phone (iPhone XR) I have just had to remove and reinstall my app. Annoyingly I did not realise this until today; the app appeared to be logged in but would not download updated transactions, receive notifications, but still opened and showed me my full transactions history (cached data).

Having realised it was not updating today I decided to log out (appeared to be successful) and log in again, but the app would not log in.

Removed the app completely from the phone, then tried to login in again. Worked this time, and now seeing updated transactions. All good.

This process did raise some issues for me:

  1. The app was clearly unable to authenticate with the APIs in some way. Given this I woudl have expected it to automatically log out, clear it’s cache of data and require to be logged in again. Bit perplexed as to why it did not given the sensitivity of banking data.
  2. Given the inability to authenticate with the APIs why was I not shown any error messages? The only indication I had there was a problem was no push notifications getting to me and the transactio history was showing “last updated 3 days ago” (sorry forgot to take a screenshot).

Following on from this I have now manaegd to login but found something else which does not work. Reproduction steps:

  • Load app
  • Click profile button (head top left)
  • Click “Your Monzo”
  • Scroll to “Set when you get paid” & Click
  • Click “Lets do this!” button
    Nothing happens.

The account feed view is very flat now. Boldface for section headings like “TODAY” and past dates would help tremendously. I’d also suggest the same boldface treatment for account balances at the top…

Apologies - I couldn’t see it in this chain (mainly because there are so many messages). I remember reading that this was coming to labs? Is it still only BETA?

Thanks

It is in Labs now for those without Joint Accounts.

Those with Joint Accounts will be offered it in Labs maybe next week.

A little late to the party, but just picked up the new design today on iOS. Great to see this being developed in the open, thanks. Sorry if some of these points have already been covered…

Generally like the easy if switching between pots/current account but do miss any kind of at-a-glance balance health (vs just totals).

  • It’d be great if the days to go/left to spend floating header in the home view conveyed the same doom factor as the summary view. I guess it’s just seeing the ratio of balance/days… so you can see the relative spending velocity, which you don’t get with totals?

  • I don’t use budgets, so used to use the Summary page circular gauge to check spending rate. The home view graph wasn’t so accurate, so I don’t miss that, but with the old design it was a quick switch to the summary tab at the bottom of the screen (iirc). In the new design it’s a press at the top of the UI. On a larger phone it’s quite unwieldy and then you have to also press Close in the top right to get back to home which is even further away.

2p + all the best
Tom

When you click what used to be “view all” there is no back button. Yes, you can hit the cards themselves and this is nice but i’d say there defo needs to be an intuitive back option

Perfect thanks.

Have to agree with the above. The orange on the manage button is horrible

Just adding my +1 to making the summary circle more prominent. It’s the feature I use the most, so it would be great if it was more easily accessible.
The menus feel quite long now, I think I preferred it when it was less dense.

Just my thoughts, thanks to the hard-working folks at Monzo for all that you do!

 Hi all, first time poster. Been using Monzo 2.54.0 for about a week now, and here’s my observations (these have probably already been covered extensively!):

POTS :honey_pot:

  • When you click on ‘Deposits’, it would be good to be shown when those deposits were made in a neat and simple list. I’d quite like to see when money was moved into a Pot, through the Pots screen.
  • I really like how quick and easy it is to access Pots from the ‘Home’ tab. Not only are they easily accessible, but they look neat; and the transition between Pots and back to Monzo Account is slick.
  • Would be good to see % goal of a target from the home screen.
  • Pot title above and below balance, not needed in both areas.

MISC

  • ‘Spent today’ feature is a must!!
  • Inbox bell disappears.
  • The budget bar is a cool feature, but perhaps you can customise whether you see the total £ left or a % or budget spent / available.
  • Would like to see direct debits / scheduled payments displayed (faintly) a few days in advance, currently only shows one day (due out tomorrow).
  • Drag to refresh would be very useful.
  • Have the ability to change the duration of a budget; i.e a daily, weekly or monthly budget.

Other questions

  • Will we be able to add custom categories (with changeable icons) in a future update?
  • When will Monzo Points become available for all users?

BIG thanks to all the team, I’ve just gone #FullMonzo :rocket: because I really believe in the product!

Who wants to see what else is in the pipeline for the app redesign?

We’re still hard at work on the new look for the joint account :man_technologist: I’ll share another sneak peek of this just as soon as I can :eyes:

But here’s the upcoming design for our profile screen :tada: The plan is to merge the profiles and accounts into the same page :sunglasses:

The view all button will be disappearing from home screen and the profile button will take you to your accounts, meaning less tapping and more information at your fingertips

I’d like to be the first to wish you congratulations on your upcoming wedding, Marcus.

(More seriously, it’s an elegant solution. I like the idea and am looking forward to seeing how it works in practice!)

If you missed out on Investival, you can now watch the session from the new navigation called Empty Spaces!

I’ve been waiting to write a longer feedback post for a while now, but having seen the Investival talks and the previous responses I know most of the features that I wanted to give feedback on have already been addressed and are still being iterated upon.

However I just wanted to add to what a couple of people have mentioned about the overdraft/lending buttons within the app:

I’ve noticed on the latest update that an orange overdraft button has appeared below the card on the home screen. Whilst I understand that Tom and others have mentioned that various methods are being tested to educate customers about overdraft and loan products within the app, this orange button seems a bit too prominent for my liking. If you follow the button (I see it more as an advert or a prompt than a button now) you get to this screen:

Since I do not want an overdraft, let’s say that I select this on the slider and continue to the next screen:

This final screen would suggest that Monzo respect my decision not to apply for an overdraft. My suggestion would be that following on from this interaction, the button on the home screen (underneath the card) would now revert to the blue colour rather than staying orange.

Does anyone else agree? I think there are enough orange buttons (adverts) for overdrafts in other places in the app already, such as the two consecutive ones on the account screen. In my opinion these buttons should also disappear after the above interaction has taken place, but that might be asking too much.

You can get the loans and overdrafts section removed if you ask in app

As for the wording, it’s clear and straight to the point. There is no mistaking anything from that so I quite like it :upside_down_face:

I don’t have a problem with the wording at all. It just seems odd that after indicating that I do not want an overdraft, it’s still clearly being pushed so prominently on multiple areas of the app.

To put it another way then, could these orange buttons not be removed when toggling the “lending promotions” notifications in settings? It seems like unnecessary friction to contact COps about it when waiting times for support are already long.

I too would expect that toggle them off but this has been asked before and the answer I gave you was the solution

Thanks, I’ve sent a message in the app to ask for these to be switched off.

I wasn’t suggesting your response was incorrect, just wondering if anyone at Monzo had considered this recently from a customer perspective.
