We're working on a new look for the Monzo app

Yeah there definitely needs to be more pay frequency/pay date options to make it a more universal feature. Too many people left out at the moment :slightly_frowning_face:

Do you need to be on TestFlight to use this?

There is no statement to the effect that it will not be supported unless on TestFlight/Android Beta, but you would certainly get it at least a week or two earlier if you did use them

One thing I would say, is that the card tab on the current app doesn’t make much logical sense. It’s a holdover from the early prepaid days when account = card = feed. But now, the card is really just an accessory to the account. There are so many other non-card features and settings, I don’t think it makes sense to have a ‘card’ tab where you access these things.

It would be handy to be able to manually edit some of the items that fall under committed spend, to more precisely reveal how much I have left to spend.

While my utility bills, gym and magazine subscriptions - and any savings I hope to put aside - may all be predictable for Monzo, my credit card bill isn’t, as the amount is far from regular. Yet my credit card bill is issued on the 2nd day of the month, and Direct Debit taken only on the 29th. It would be helpful if, for my credit card and other expenses I can better predict than Monzo, I could manually edit or enter the amount, so my left to spend amount is a closer reflection of reality.

Of course, with Open Banking and the current efforts to integrate credit card balance into The Monzo app, Monzo May soon be able to simply pick up the bill amount, but until then, entering it manually would be very useful.

Agreed.

I think, though, that Monzo wanted to make it as simple and as frictionless as possible - so didn’t want to ask customers to input data.

That said, I don’t see anything wrong with a discreet screen showing upcoming committed spend, with an option to change the values - or indeed add anything that’s not there - if needed.

Now I understand why Samsung Pay is not a priority. Monzo’s priority is to focus on redesigning an app that is already great and that it works… Wow… Good focus!

App is fine, leave it as it is IIIIIIIII

App is terrible, it must change IIIIIIIII

Tight race

Though on a more serious note I imagine that Samsung Pay is not the same focus as redesigning an app targeting nearly two million people as only about twenty people on here have been asking for it. There’s a thread on here to rally votes around if you’re that keen

I’m happy as it is but I might be happier when it changes, who knows?

It appears that the market place is finally moving forward as well as things like points, adding credit card, increased availability of loans etc. Can’t see how all that stuff will fit in without a redesign. Summary works well for me but for a lot of people it doesn’t, so clearly that needs sorting.

On Samsung pay, that’ll be the payments team who would need to take the lead on that so it’s not related really

In your opinion, it’s fine. In my opinion, it’s cluttered and unrefined. I’m all for this new design, it’s nice.

And I’m fairly sure Monzo work on more than one thing at a time. The focus doesn’t have to shift.

Samsung Pay would be built by the specialist payments squad, which is different to the squads working on general current account features.

Just signed up. Been a while since I helped with some testing so happy to pitch in.

On that point, @bruno did not seem to mention in the original post how they would prefer to receive feedback on the new design

A thread on here?

I’d agree with that, though would argue that many people in the UK would find occasional manual input more frictionless than having to manually calculate their Left to spend balance. For those rare occasions when you’ve booked a holiday or bought something large and you know your credit card bill is going to be higher than usual, it would make things more straightforward.

Like several others in this thread I have come to like the Summary tab and find it very useful. I find pretty much everything in the tab useful and after using it for a while find it easy to use. However, I do remember that when I first tried to use it I had significant difficulty understanding it, in particular understanding the difference in behaviour depending on whether or not you have set a monthly budget. I had to search the forum for explanations of how it behaves. This shouldn’t be necessary and surely puts a lot of people off (most people won’t put in the effort to understand it that I and other forum users are willing to do).

Here are some of the things I wrote last year just after I had more or less figured it out but still had some uncertainty and was also trying to help someone else understand it (this is perhaps more useful to Monzo than my thoughts on it after using it for several months).

So I think Monzo either need to do a better job explaining or signposting how to use the existing Summary tab from within the app, and/or think up a more intuitive approach to spending analytics and budgeting (I don’t know what that would be myself).

Same here. I still think the summary tab needs some work as well so I hope it comes in with some more features. Even just a clear view of what your balance will be at the end of the month after bills. Suggest how much could go into savings… there’s a lot they could do.

Will we still be able to see how much we have in total in our Monzo account including all pots? This is super useful for me in the Account tab

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I think an option in settings to choose off/basic/advanced version of summary would be great.

Some people budget and will take time to understand how to use features to help them do so and micromanage their finances by hiding transactions etc themselves. Others don’t want to budget at all. Others I think would probably be happy with a simple left to spend that requires little to no input from them, maybe with a little assistance from some sort of AI?

Choosing your preference could be part of the sign up process.
