Just a suggestion but how about a weekly notification reminding you what regular payments (standing orders and direct debits) are due out in the following week.
Could be taken one step further (assuming the payments are fixed amounts) with a balance now and an anticipated balance after the payments have been made.
As a crude example
Balance as of 1/4/18 £500
Payments due
Sky £70
BT £30
Balance after expected payments £400.
The purpose would be to simply give people a reminder of bills that would be debiting soon and an indication of how much money they have, not including bills
