Me and my partner are interested in moving over from my Joint Account with Barclays to Monzo. Does anyone know if all the features listed in this US Blog post are the same for the UK?

For example, the ‘See who spent what and where in real time feature’.

Yup, I get notifications when my partner spends/adds/removes.

You can’t create your own categories on the joint account, and you can’t connect accounts there, that’s personal account only.

Does the JA work in the same way the Personal account does in regards to scheduling payments?

At the moment we set up a Standing Order to go into our Barclays joint account each month where all the bills come out. Is it possible to set this up so a fixed amount of our pay automatically goes to the JA each month? And does the JA have the left to spend option because it knows the schedule payment will be transferred in each month? Apologies if my question isn’t clear.

You can schedule transfers from personal account and pots to each other, and from joint account and pots to each other, but not from personal to joint, or joint to personal. You would need to set up a standing order just as if you were transfering from Monzo to another bank.
(You can’t schedule payment from a savings pot [withdrawal], but you can to them [deposit]. Regular pots can do both.)

You can do immediate transfers between personal and joint account though (including directly to pots in either account).

Salary sorter also lets you transfer directly to/from joint account, but only to pots associated with the account the payment was made to (so no sorting from personal to a joint pot).

Yes, both scenarios work with :monzo: Joint accounts.

So just to confirm, I CAN’T salary sort a fixed amount from monthly salary from my personal account to my JA each month?

You can, but it’s not automatic.

You can get paid, press salary sort, see that it’s the same as you did last month, then press sort, approve, done.

But you have to get involved.

If you want a completely handsfree solution then you’ll need to set up a standing order/Monzo transfer for a certain date each month.

A standing order for a fixed amount. Yes, of course.

One addendum - if you want to schedule the payment for “the last day of the month” (i.e. “before payments go out on the first”) then you have to wait for a month with 31 days, and then schedule it monthly from there on. It will go on the last day of the month from there on out, even if the month has fewer days. But if you schedule it on the 28th, 29th (heh), or 30th it will go out on that day instead, which I found a little ugly.

just opened an account - previously only had a business account - when the joint account opens, can I switch from my current personal account?

Not sure where to put this bug but it shows the old joint account card here when I have the white one (which used to be here u til recently ).

Any news on virtual cards, or being able to pay a retailer from a pot?

This lack of feature is killing budgeting. Do Starling offer it? :eyes:

They do. And they don’t charge for the virtual cards either.

Want to open a joint account… but why is there pre-requisite that the app has access to your contacts?

I know who I want to open my joint account with. I don’t need to know who else has Monzo and more importantly, for the principle, Monzo does not need access to my Contacts list.

I don’t believe there is. But you can revoke the :monzo: app’s permission to access your contacts after you’ve gone through the Joint Account application and - hopefully - approval process. We’ve use a Joint Account as our daily bank account for almost 6 years now and we both have contacts switched off. The same with QR code/payment link and telephone number access - off, off, off.
