We’re Testing Something New for Bills & Subscriptions 📆 [Now in Labs!]

Definitely on the right version of the app (>= 7.12), restarted the app, and on the ‘scheduled’ tab on either your personal or joint (not business) account?

Yep. No option to see a calemdar from there.

I’ve had this before. If you find the direct debit transaction when it’s been paid you should have the option to set as repeating.

Looks good so far. As others have said I thought the bottom "“select day” was a drawer that you drag up but that isnt the case.

I can see the total payment amount for all payments at the bottom of each calendar day. I wonder how this could potentially link in with trends and be able to show the predicted balance on each calendar day.

I really like that the date isnt just a calendar from the 1st to the end of the month but is based on my own payment cycle.

Some sort of visual that shows total payments for the month and amount remaining would be good.

Also a visual on a given date when a payment is due and there isnt enough funds in the account / pot to cover it would help with forward planning.

Very keen for more screenshots (or even the odd video) showing how this all works, especially the flow to get there!

I’m assuming that the chronological list of payments is still on the Scheduled tab, and that this is an additional tap from that screen?

Thank you! It would be great if Monzo could make sure that this is available from the list of scheduled payments, too.

It’s there once it’s set as a subscription / repeating payment. Not sure why they can pick up some automatically but not others. They know it’s a direct debit. Possibly not frequency on the first one.

Thanks for checking in, sorry to say you didn’t make it into this round of testing. We had a lot of applicants very quickly. We’ll be sharing another update soon though!

I’ve had a thought - I’ve manually switched most of my DDs away when I’ve had the urge to use another current account and now switched them back to Monzo. Maybe that’s confusing the algorithm when it sees a gap between the payments.

Anyway, everything is set to recurring now, so thanks for your help!

Correct. A new ‘View calendar’ tap appears at the top of the Payments → Scheduled screen:

Tap on that and it shows the Calendar view:

Tap on a day (in the calendar itself - not the ‘Select day’ area at the bottom) and the transactions for that day are shown:

If you tap on a day with multiple icons/transactions, a scrollable list of transactions shows at the bottom & if you tap on a day with no transaction icon, ‘None scheduled’ is shown at the bottom.

Tap on a transaction shown at the bottom and it takes you through to the transaction display - just as it would if you tapped on a transaction in a feed.

And that’s it for now - nice and simple and works as intended. The month arrows at the top allow you to rewind 1 month and fast forward up to 3 months.

Amazing. Thanks David.

By the way, was there any sign of this in your hot coral analysis / app tear downs?

I didn’t see any direct links to the Calendar, but there are plenty of ‘vague’ descriptors in the app code these days!

The teardowns are almost automatic and because of the slooooooooowed-down new feature releases, I haven’t been scrutinising them in as much detail compared to years ago.
Must. Look. Harder.

I’ll see if there’s anything obvious in the metadata we can use to distinguish ad hoc repayments from scheduled payments.

Looks like I didn’t make the cut this time. Looks great from the screenshots people have shared though. Can’t wait for invites to be expanded or for it to become public.

Another bit of feedback. I just got a notification from the app saying one of my direct debits would be slightly higher than last month.

When I go to the scheduled view, the old (predicted) amount is showing. It would be great if, once known, the amount changed to reflect what will be taken.

I’d quite like a way to remove old payments from the Scheduled payments screen. Must be 300+ in that list.

I agree. I’d also like to see at a glance when the last scheduled payment was taken so that I can remove scheduled payments that haven’t been taken for the last few months. Currently, there’s quite a few taps to get to that information.

Hey everyone, I’m back with another update :waving_hand:

Bills Calendar is now available for anyone to test via Monzo Labs :tada:

To turn it on, head to: Settings → Monzo Labs → Bills Calendar. You’ll just need to restart the app once you switch it on.

A huge thank you to our first group of testers, your feedback has been incredibly helpful. All of the issues you’ve raised have been flagged to the team, and several are already being investigated and worked on. We’re also really grateful for the thoughtful suggestions about what you’d like to see us change or build next.

From now on, you can report bugs or give feedback directly from a feedback form within the feature itself, and it’ll go straight to the team :star:

Just to add this genuinely is a positive update and looks good even off the bat. So well done all :tada:

Does it not work with just two?

I guess it could be down to not having any this month, but then is it not possible to see last month?
