Hey folks :waving_hand: Liz here from the Accounts team!

We’re working on improving how bills and subscriptions are managed in the app, and it’s really important to us that this works well for joint accounts too. We know this community is full of engaged, thoughtful users, and your feedback genuinely helps shape what we build.

We are looking for early testers for something new we are working on called the Bills and Upcoming Payments Calendar :spiral_calendar:

It is part of a wider effort to make bills easier to manage in Monzo, and to make things feel a bit clearer when bills are spread throughout the month and payments are spread across personal and joint accounts. Before this goes any further, we want to put it in front of real people and hear what you think.

Why we are looking at this :eyes:

Bills, scheduled payments and regular money movements have a habit of piling up quietly in the background. Most of us have a system that mostly works, until it doesn’t. A big payment pops up, shared bills get harder to keep track of, or something gets forgotten.

We think there is a chance to make this feel calmer and more predictable, especially if you are juggling lots of payments or managing money with someone else.

Who we are looking for

We are after a small group of volunteers who are happy to try an early version on their real UK Monzo accounts and tell us what works and what does not.

We would especially love to hear from you if you:

  • Use UK Personal and Joint Accounts

  • Pay multiple bills or have lots of scheduled payments and money movements

  • Share bills with someone else

If you join, you will get early access and we will ask you to share feedback as you go. This is very much a work in progress and your input will help shape what happens next.

A couple of quick things to know:

  • You must have at least a Monzo Personal Account

  • You should have some bills or scheduled payments being paid via Monzo already (direct debits, card subscriptions, standing orders), otherwise there won’t be anything for you to see!

  • Places are limited

  • You will be testing an early beta version

  • We will ask for feedback in this thread along the way

Don’t use my personal account much but most our household bills and spending come out of the joint account so signed up

Honestly something like this could be amazing. I share all the household bills but they all come out of my account. Hopefully I can see easily how much my housemate has to pay between their 4 week pay

One initial thought: can this be published via CalDAV or similar so we can subscribe to it from our calendars and see it in our devices’ native apps?

This looks like a fab idea!! Having your bills laid out in a calendar view for me could work incredibly well!!

Another thought (fully appreciating we haven’t seen this yet!):

It would be fantastic to not just have bills and subscription, but also incoming salary payments.

Having either a monthly or daily view of Money In - Money Out would give an amazing indication of how much is left over (or needs to be found).

And, as an advanced though, this could even become a Summary replacement if it then broke down the amount left over by day - so we could look at the calendar page and see how much money is, on average, safe to spend every day.

The ability to manually enter bills or income into the calendar (or quick notes/reminders) would be awesome. But with those come the need for notifications and even better - CalDAV support (as @Peter_G mentioned)

Will this eventually work with connected accounts or is it only ever going to be for Monzo accounts?

One observation/suggestion I would make is I don’t really have a problem remembering monthly bills/subscriptions. What sometimes catches me out is those that are paid at longer intervals, e.g. annually. It would be good if these could stand out in some way or have reminders/notifications which are distinct from monthly ones (I tend to prefer to not have reminders for monthly bills).
