We’re improving international transfers, powered by Wise 🌍

Depends what it’s worth to get your account closed for money laundering

I now get 85p

I looked at another currency and then went back to euros again and it went up 30p

I can reproduce this

So the moral of the story is close the app before you transfer

I think it’s just an error with the default transfer screen. It only shows 55p when it’s greyed out at 100 transferring to euro. If you enter the 100 so it’s not greyed out then you’ll get the 85p

So nobody will get 55p. It’s misleading though

I still get the 55p.

Even when you type in 100 and then tap the ‘recipient gets’ box?

Yeah I enter 100 in the send and tap the box below it stays the same. If I switch currency and then back to Euro it stays the same.
I do think 85p is the correct fee since I suspect it uses the debit card rather than a bank transfer which is where wise adds the extra fee I think based on their site.

It is clearly the case if you’re comparing like for like.

The second option is the same for Wise and Monzo isn’t it? Monzo don’t offer the first option.

Hey folks

Sorry for the confusion – we made a mistake on our end :man_facepalming:

It should be fixed now though!

Scratch that, it’s not

Sorry folks. So – we’re aware of this and what’s causing it, and we’ll work to fix it soon. It’s an issue with the placeholder text in the quote screen – so the fee won’t be different, just what appears in the placeholder. As soon as you start typing, it should show you the correct fee.

Sorry for the trouble gang, and for thinking it was fixed when it wasn’t! More coffee required today, I think… :man_facepalming:

I’m still getting an 85p fee compared to 55p for Wise…

It should be 85p, the 55p is an error if you saw it in the monzo app

Ok so then confirmed for sure:

Using Monzo IS more expensive than using Wise directly? @jackcully please confirm?

You’re comparing apples and oranges again

For the same option it’s the same price

They don’t offer the low cost transfer

Hey @aoh591!

We use Wise’s fast and easy fee for international transfers, so it’s the same price as a comparable service directly through Wise.

Wise do also offer a low-cost transfer – where you can send money to your Wise account, and then from that account, onwards to wherever you need it to go. That low-cost option is lower than the fast and easy one!

Thanks for clarifying. For what it’s worth, I do think this wording should be clarified then, as otherwise comes off as misleading / confusing.

I also note that before you guys did have the lower fee, so I get the low cost vs speed (still not sure how FPS changes that equation) but would be good to give that option to users. Doesn’t make much of a difference at smaller values, but at larger ones it can!

I think it’s just a bit too easy to not realize the difference between the two fees, go from one app to the other and think “wait a minute…”

I’m probably just a pedant though!

I don’t think it is comparable to Wise’s fast and easy transfer. Wise’s fast and easy transfer allows the user to use a debit or credit card, in return for a higher fee. This is not the case for Monzo. Alternatively, Wise’s low cost transfer involves transferring money from your bank account into Wise, which is essentially what you are doing when you transfer money using Monzo directly.

The old Monzo platform charged the low cost fee, so essentially it seems that Monzo has upgraded the experience and also it’s pricing. Monzo should charge the low cost fee.

If you don’t want to pay the higher fee, go directly to Wise?
